BEx Quo Vadis? ASUG Webcast Part 2, Focusing on Design Studio
Today ASUG had a BEx Quo Vadis webcast, with 57 questions in the question and answer. Interest was quite high.

SAP has enabled the SDK in Design Studio 1.2
For the agnostic space they have added.UNX support
Look to the future – 1.3 planned to ship in Q2 next year
SAP plans to offer a Lumira SDK for Design Studio to build components for both

Q: Can we consider the Design Studio as revised version of WAD tool?
A: officially, it is a premium “alternative” of it – we target to cover all essential WAD scenarios with Design Studio.

Q: Is there any limitation on max no of output results(cells) in design studio 1.2 ?
A: No limitation on the data output itself.

Q: If I were to use SAP Lumira with Bex query(as data source) along with Non SAP systems, it it possible ?
A: Lumira does not support BEx Queries at this time – only BW BI4 universes

Q: How long MDX statements are supported ?
A: we don’t do MDX in Analysis Office or Design Studio. use queries or HANA models instead

Q: Any plans for drag-and-drop functionality with the Analysis grid item similar to what is in BEx 7.x?
A: drag and drop is possible in Analysis grid, e.g. adding/removing new dimensions/measures, sorting, filtering etc.

Q: If we use Bex queries, we can simulate using RSRT for any specific calculations to be verified/checked. How Can I simulate Design Studio using Bex as data source assuming that built-in custom code within Design studio?
A: you can use ALL Bex queries in Design Studio …

Q: Is Design Studio a replacement BeX Query Designer?
A: No it is not – there is no replacement for BEx Query Designer

Q: Which mobile devices(Apple/Adroid/windows) versions are supported for Design Studio ?
A: iOS devices

A: An eclipse version is coming with 7.40

A: not a native PDF generator yet, we have printing on the roadmap.

From the event were you able to gather if Android or Windows devices will be supported for Design Studio?
That was not discussed but we have an ASUG Mobile BI webcast this week where I expect that will be asked
