The look and feel of the SAP NetWeaver Portal can be easily customers through the use of framework pages, themes, desktops and the master rule collection.

The framework page organizes the standard content a user sees when they first log onto the portal.   SAP supplies the classic framework page as seen below and the Ajax framework page.   The framework pages can be customized through changes to the iView properties or replacement of the iView with a custom built iView.  It is also possible to completely rewrite the entire framework page.

Themes allow for customization of the colors and fonts used in the portal.   SAP supplies a number of ready only themes for default use.  These themes can be copied and changed to reflect your corporate branding of the portal.

A framework page and themes are organized together is a portal desktop.

The master rule collection is processed when a user logs onto the portal.  The master rule collection is a set of conditions that determines which desktop a user will have.  This will assign a framework page and decide which themes the user may select from if they decide to choose the personalize option in the portal.

A quick technique to set your corporate branding in the portal is to copy and customize a supplied framework page, copy and customize one or more themes and then create your own desktop.  The final step is to edit the master rule collection so that your users will be assigned your new desktop as part of the login process.

Changing the look and feel of the portal is covered in SAPEP - NetWeaver Portal Fundamentals.
