Instrument Reliability Network (IRN)- Mary Kay O’Conner Center For Process Safety – Texas A&M

It is the Instrument Reliability Network’s mission to share historical information on lessons learned in order to minimize environmental harm, improve industry safety, maximize asset performance and reduce maintenance costs through better lifecycle management of instrumentation and controls applied in the process industry.

Its vision is to encourage Stakeholders join to form a collaborative network to:

• Benchmark current performance of instrumentation and controls in process industry applications.
• Define a common taxonomy to support consistent collection of quality data from maintenance and proof test activities.
• Share lessons learned in improving instrumentation and controls reliability.

This organization has just recently been established and is looking for people to take part in this collaborative network.

As an example of the educational and network opportunities that this network offers, a series of webcasts on how to configure SAP Enterprise  Asset Management (SAP EAM) for the recording of failure data were presented, These webcasts are part of an on going discussion on how best to use SAP EAM to support the requirements of various industry standards. These webcasts were a follow up  from a paper (Enabling performance improvement with Benchmarking and Key Process Indicators –  Collecting Instrument Reliability Data for Key Performance Indicators: Per ISA-TR84.00.04 Part I Annex R  As API RP 754 Tier 3 & 4 Metrics Using SAP’s Enterprise Resource Platform – Authors Keith Lapeyrouse of Dow Chemical Company &  John Harrison of SAP Canada)  that was presented at the 2013 Process Symposium.

The first webinar is titled, “Understanding Functional Location and Equipment in the Failure Data Collection Process,” and was presented by myself on October 23, 2013

The second webinar is titled, “Understanding Notifications and Orders in the Failure Data Collection Process,” and was presented by myself,  November 12, 2013.
