SAP NetWeaver DSM: Great solution, but wondering where to apply?

I am part of the SAP team who has been introducing SAP NetWeaver Decision Service Management (SAP NetWeaver DSM) to the market since its launch in 2012. I have to admit that while we focused so much on describing the features and capabilities of SAP NetWeaver DSM we missed to provide more practical business examples where this solution can be applied.

Hence, I sat down with my colleagues Wolfgang Schaper and Carsten Ziegler who have a vast experience of real-life SAP NetWeaver DSM use cases from many customer projects they have been involved in. As a result, we documented 10 great SAP NetWeaver DSM use cases (in an anonymized and simplified way).

The goal of this slide deck is really just to give you a sense of the kind of use cases where SAP NetWeaver DSM can potentially be applied. These are of course only a fraction of the potential use cases, but hopefully they serve as an inspiration as you explore where this solution might be able to add value in your organization.

The SAP NetWeaver DSM use cases we documented are the following:

Nice Blog with very catchy headline 🙂

I think especially in the field of insurance several more use cases are available besides the claim focused ones already listed.

Here are some high-level examples that I could imagine

      • Risk assessment when applying for a new policy/contract
      • Decision on the necessity of dual checks when applying for a policy
      • The already listed topic of loan can also be transfered to policy management where a loan can be granted on a policy.
      • An interesting topic is the granting so called bundle discount (and of course its amount) when a policyholder has several contracts of the same insurance company

When taking into account the capabilities of  DSM in combination with predictive analytics some further use cases might appear taking a deeper dive into direct distribution of policies namely the system-based proposal of additional coverages when a user applies for a new policy.

From my point of view especially the field of insurance and SAP Policy Management is a field that could highly benefit from using DSM

Looking forward for more news on this topic!
