Setting up NWDS for SAP NetWeaver PI/Process Orchestration 7.31 – it’s very easy!

In my project newbies are not aware of NWDS set up for PO, many of them asked my help to set-up.  So I thought of creating a document and sharing in the SCN, so that newbies of allover the world can refer and work easily in NWDS.

First Download below stuffs:

  1. NWDS [Version should be same as SP of  PI box]
  2. JDK

NWDS Installer can be downloaded from the below link.

https://nwds.sap.com/swdc/downloads/updates/netweaver/nwds/nw/731/doc/auto_latest_distributions.html

You need S-Marketplace id(S-Userid) and Password to access this.

Note: Installed Size is approximately around 1GB.

To run the NWDS you need a compatible JDK 6u31 (it is by Sun and not Oracle).

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javasebusiness/downloads/java-archive-downloads-javase6-419409.html#jdk-6u31-oth-JPR

Download the 32 – bit version and install in your system. To download this create a free oracle account and download it.

Secondly launch nwds by double clicking on .exe file.

Create a new Workspace with some convenient name and proceed. I prefer to create the workspace in side the nwds folder only, so that it all important files would be in one place.

NWDS home screen, choose workbench.

/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/1_311150.jpg

Choose the perspective -> /wp-content/uploads/2013/10/2_311151.jpg

Click on the highlighted button to connect to PO server.

/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/3_311152.jpg

Enter one time server details.

Alias: system name

url: http://<host>:<id>

/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/4_311153.jpg

Enter credentials to login to the PO. /wp-content/uploads/2013/10/5_311154.jpg

You could see the iflows: /wp-content/uploads/2013/10/6_311155.jpg

Below is a beautiful iflow look:

/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/7_311159.jpg

Thats it…..

Another important thing to know is deploying the object. Read below:

After saving the object, check consistency, activate and deploy. /wp-content/uploads/2013/10/8_311160.jpg

You could observe below things: /wp-content/uploads/2013/10/9_311161.jpg

If you get below error:  “JVM terminated exit code = -1

refer my scn-thread for the answer : http://scn.sap.com/thread/3433887

If you get below error:

/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/10_311165.jpg

Install JDK 6u31 click on ok and locate the jawas file which you could find in C:\Program Files\Java\jre6.

One more important feature is Versioning of objects is available here too, just right click on graph area of iflow, you could see the option ‘Load from the older version’.

Its a great feeling to write my first document. thanks to SAP

Reg,

Avi

The above is for those based on 7.31 or 7.40 isn't it Avi? It would be a different download link for those folk on earlier versions.

Btw for those wanting to ensure the exact same version of NWDS is used for all the developers in their team, grab the update site management tool from the same download area and read the doco on creating local update site mirrors.  Useful!

      Thanks for contributing!

      Hi Jocelyn,

I got that link from my project architect. NWDS sp should be same as PI sp.

      Avi

Hi Again Jocelyn, Apologize for late reply. Proud that am replying for the query.

The above is for those based on 7.31 or 7.40 isn't it Avi? Yes.

It would be a different download link for those folk on earlier versions. Earlier version doesn't support NWDS.

Btw for those wanting to ensure the exact same version of NWDS is used for all the developers in their team, grab the update site management tool from the same download area and read the doco on creating local update site mirrors.  Useful! Sorry, I didn't understand this 🙁

      Thanks for contributing! np

      Hi Hubery,

iFlow in PO/PI are similar with iFlow in HCI, but if you have a try both, you will find that they do have several difference. So that is why Eclipse for HCI but NWDS for PI/PO.

      Thanks

The links are fine, it gives a popup where you need a Service Marketplace login to access the. If you can't even get a popup, most likely there is a firewall or proxy issue from your company network - check with your network team.

As I mentioned earlier, probably some access problem from your company network.

      Hello Eng,

First of all, thank you for your response. I have a question about the Perspective Process Integration Designer . I download the NWDS with 7.3 SP14. But I cannot find the Perspective Process Integration Designer. Should I download the NWDS with 7.3 SP17?

      IFlow.png

There is no update when I check the update.

      Dear Eng,

I know you have plentiful experiences in data integration and cloud integration. I have a question about  Cloud integration.  Recently,  SAP official recommend HCP(SAP HANA Platform)  as cloud integration solution for cloud integration, not HCI(SAP Hana Cloud integration). What is the different between HCP and HCI?

In my opinions, The HCI belongs to the HCP. It means the HCI is a part of HCP. All of two based on SOA(Service-oriented Architecture) for  Enterprise informatization.

Thank you for your clarification in advance.

      Many thanks & best regards,

      Hubery

If you have your own queries which is not related to the blog, please post them as a discussion thread instead of a comment on this blog. If you want to know about HCP, I'd suggest you post it in the HCP space on SCN.

Thank you Eng,  I find anywhere to launch an new session. I cannot find the icon, maybe I don't have authority so far.

I will check the HCP on SCN. Thanks a lot.

      Many thanks & best regards,

connecting NWDS to SAP-PO 7.50 there is security-configuration neccessary

      https://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/display/Java/NWDS+Troubleshooting#NWDSTroubleshooting-TSG_NWDS4

      see sapnote  1495075 ( https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/notes/0001495075 )

      see sapnote  1439348 ( https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/notes/0001439348  )

but if you do config to strong, the SAP-PO system did not start anymore – not easy
