(Edited: Apologies for any broken links leading to this blog. I’ve made a minor modification to the blog title.)
I’ve been fortunate to attend over 10 SAP TechEd conferences in my lifetime. In Las Vegas this year, I sensed something different (although not new) – a sentiment of fun, a spirit of community, and a feeling of casualness.
SAP TechEd is an opportunity to get educated about SAP and partner solutions. However, anyone who has attended school knows that “play” is an important component of learning. When we play, we trigger something deep inside that uninhibits our competitiveness, and at the same time, our creativity. Some have also said that embedding games into learning improves knowledge retention (How many of you learned your ABCs with a song? ๐ ). Evidence of fun and play were everywhere in Las Vegas this year, from the gamified mobile event app to our SAP Mentors band performing at the evening Networking Reception. How appropriate since the theme of this year’s SAP TechEd is “Get in the Game!” ๐ What a great message too! Beyond the social and gaming meaning, it’s also a clear encouragement for us all to participate – whether at TechEd, SCN or where ever we find ourselves.
Rather than share a video like last year (SAP TechEd 2012 in Shanghai – Look Inside), I hope the comic-strip style image gives you a glimpse into the social and fun aspect of this conference. Afterall, SAP TechEd to me is an opportunity for build and strengthen relationships with fellow SCN members! ๐
Whether you’ve attended before, or plan to attend in the near future, what does SAP TechEd mean to you?

Great post, Jason! I love the comic strip and have to agree that "fun and play" trigger a competitiveness and creativity.
Thanks Krysten! Congratulations to you for such a wonderful tribute-display for SCN's 10 anniversary in the TechEd Clubhouse! ๐
Very nice blog Jason!
I also liked the comic strip.
And, answering your question, TechEd means to me network and knowledge!
Thanks Eduardo! Network and knowledge are awesome take-aways from SAP TechEd!
Cheers,
Jason
Jason :
Great picture. Thanks to you & all the SAP #MadeInCanada folks for helping make the SAP TechEd 2013 edition of the #CanuckHunt so much fun...!
Hope to make it even bigger and better at SAPPHIRE 2014 next June.

Thanks Mark! Your #CanuckHunt challenge sure had a presence at SAP TechEd! It was nice to catch up with others from Canada, such as Kirsten Sutton Éric Ledu and Geoff Bazira as well.
Hope to be part of SAPPHIRE next year and join your #CanuckHunt again.
Great post! It was a pleasure meet you personally at Club House!
The pleasure was mine, Valter! We'll have to make more time to chat about community and TechEd next time we meet in person.
Cheers,
Jason
Hey Jason,
Wow, what does TechEd mean to me? In no particular order...
and so much more.
Cheers,
Sue
Hi Sue! Love "frivolity!" Sometimes it's just good to sit back, enjoy good company and be silly! ๐ I like how you can "let your hair down" and still command so much respect from your peers at the end of the day.
Ha, you don't know my real life peers. Respect? wishfulthinking
I was referring to the other SAP Mentors. They speak highly of you (at least behind your back). ๐
I really liked comic strip.
Unfortunately I have nt planned for TechEd this yr. Maybe next year.
Thanks Jitendra! Hope you'll be able to attend SAP TechEd for yourself next year as well. Then you can see what all the buzz is about. ๐
For me Teched is a place for networking and learn new technologies. As a techie I love hands on workshops a lot at Teched more than anything, that covers all new trends that I can play around and talk about till next teched ๐ .
Thanks Midhun, you are probably a kinesthetic learner then? I like to learn from test-driving the tool (or appliance) as well. Networking is really a big part of TechEd, and as long as you see someone wearing a TechEd badge, there's always something to talk about. ๐
Good post.
Love the comic pic
May be next year I will surely attend TechEd
Regards,
Vivek
Thanks Vivek! Would like to meet you in person at TechEd as well. It's a really special feeling to meet our online members in person. ๐
