My personal experience at SAP TechEd this year while focusing on SAP’s Mobility strategy is slowly drawing me to a conclusion that the technology and platform which SAP has to offer is well matured to be considered as a true Enterprise level platform.

It is getting more and more evident that with SAP Mobile Platform (SMP) Enterprise Mobility is here and here to stay.  On interacting with SAP customers at the event I was getting an impression that adapting mobility will soon be inevitable.  Given this observation, there is always something in store of each of us; be it a SAP development consultant with specific skills or on the platform / systems integration side or even more on the business side of the house.

SAP Mobility Platform: seems like an end to end solution – so, what does this mean to each of us..?

I see this as a great opportunity for technical folks to enrich their current skills in development areas of ABAP, Java, HTML5, JQuery and more easily develop mobile applications.  Huge opportunities for SAP basis and security teams to enhance their existing knowledge in areas of SAP Netweaver, integration with 3rd parties, security, networking etc. while we have a plethora of options for business/ functional experts to wear their design thinking hats and creatively think on how they could extend the strength of mobility in their areas of productivity by identifying and designing the right scenarios.

Then there are of course areas like Analytics, document management, integrating with 3rd party apps, mobile device management (Afaria), along with another set of options from services side that could comprehend the implementation of mobility. I see this as an opportunity to expand our skillsets especially with the underlying core technology remaining the same; this is the time to expand our existing skillsets and get prepared for this upcoming wave of Enterprise Mobility.

It would be interesting to see how different or similar would your thinking be on this topic. Do you see mobility as a one off wave that will just be around temporarily -or- Do you believethat SAP's Mobile platform is  as matured to be an Enterprise level platform? With SMP hasn’t it become easier or more difficult to expand our skillsets on mobility ?
