SAP Mobile Platform has travelled several miles in SAP
history. I hope most of us in this community would have noticed the journey of
SMP (SAP Mobile Platform) for almost a decade by now.

This blog might bring pleasant memories and the current
status of SMP in the competitive and also in the enterprise mobility world.

Mobile platform made the complex transaction in any backend
system to easy and simple in a way to transact from the handheld devices such
as Laptops and Smart Phones.

SAP Mobile Engine (ME):

SAP has introduced Mobile Engine in early 2000’s, SAP ME - an open standards-based
platform for mobilizing enterprise applications. SAP ME was the technology
behind mySAP Mobile Business – the industry-leading enterprise mobility

mobile devices. To know more, click here.

SAP Mobile Infrastructure (MI):

SAP has introduced Mobile Infrastructure in early
2000’s and the data model in MI was called SyncBo (Synchronizer Business
Object) where it has replica db to store the data (i.e. the data from Backend
systems). The MI server was part of the SAP NetWeaver Application
Server. It uses both the J2EE and the ABAP stack. To know more, click here

SAP NetWeaver Mobile :

Later SAP has enhanced the capabilities of MI and introduced
SAP NetWeaver Mobile aka Data Orchestration Engine (DOE) in 2005 with high
performance and scalability. Along with DOE, NetWeaver Mobile Client and IDE
(NetWeaver developer studio) was also shipped for the ease of end users to
develop their mobile applications using IDE and to deploy the application on
SAP NetWeaver Mobile Client (having two flavors such as Laptop client and OCA
client for PDAs). To know more, click here.

As part of co-innovation strategy, Mobile Gateway (Add-on)
was developed to integrate DOE with SUP to support mission critical
applications in multiple device platforms.

Sybase Unwired Platform (SUP):

Later DOE has become an integral part of Sybase Unwired
Platform in 2010 to enrich the mobile solutions (where SUP has several
components to support all types of mobile transactions, device platforms with
added advantage of supporting Online and Offline Capabilities). To know more, click
here.

Agentry :

Syclo’s Agentry, yet another great mobile product has joined
the Mobile family in SAP (in 2012). To know
more, click here.

SMP Cloud Edition :

In early 2013, SMP cloud edition has been introduced in the
market. SAP Mobile Platform Cloud Edition is a platform-as-a-service based
offering of the core Mobile Services provided in the on-premise editions, based
on HANA Cloud. To know more, click here.

SMP 3.0 :

Currently to unify all the products in Mobile (i.e. B2C
& B2E), SAP is going to launch SMP 3.0 in the market.
