On 14th of September 2013, IT Weekend conference was held in Kiev, Ukraine. IT Weekend Ukraine is an international conference, initiated to help Ukrainian IT professionals to grow and develop.
There are several facts about IT in Ukraine:
· About 25 000 IT specialists graduate from Ukrainian universities every year;
· Ukraine holds the 4th position globally for the number of IT specialists;
· Ukraine holds leadership position together with USA, India and Russia;
Ukrainian office of SAP has more than 100 employees. Half of them are in software development. Most of the developers work on MES (Manufacturing Execution System) systems. Also, Kiev team develops UI controls based on SAP UI5 technology.
This year it was first time when SAP participated in this conference. Even though SAP is a leading vendor of software for business it is almost unknown among Ukrainian software developers. When software developers in Ukraine hear about SAP then usually think about ERP and ABAP so the main goal of our participation was to change this perception.
Our colleague, yuriy.budenko was our speaker who presented SAP UI5 technology. Participants showed interest to Yuriy’s session and asked many questions about SAP, SAP UI5 and even HANA which was out of initial scope.
Yuriy did a good job presenting SAP UI5. His presentation was mostly technical but it also contained many examples taken from SAP UI5 Demo Kit. One of examples the audience liked was the Shopping Cart application. Participants asked more questions about technical details of SAP UI5 and its features. Yuriy explained main technical features and benefits to the audience comparing with other popular JavaScript-based frameworks. SAPUI5 is built with leading web technologies (HTML5, jQuery, CSS3, OData, OpenAJAX, LESS, D3.js, ARIA). It runs on various platforms. It has a set of application and control development tools, wizards and templates in Eclipse.
Overall, the audience showed interest to SAP technologies like SAP UI5 and HANA. Participants asked more questions about HANA and SAPUI5 on the sidelines of the conference.The conference has showed that Ukrainian IT specialists are interested in SAP technologies like SAP UI5 and HANA so it makes sense to continue participation in such events in Ukraine.
