Q: Hi Patrick and thank you for being one of our Services heroes! To start with, could you describe your role?
A: Of course. I am a technology architect working with a global development team for SAP Custom Development. Specifically, we are engaged with our customers to help them define software solutions that help them to address business challenges that are often unique to their business. Basically, we are trying to help our customer’s business grow by providing them a 100% SAP solution that fully leverages their platform investment.
Q: What is a typical day in the life of Patrick Pant?
A: Actually one of the things I love about my job is that there is not a typical day! I might be working with my team, speaking with our internal sales teams, or engaged with a client directly. In each instance, I am kept on my toes since the business challenges we are asked to address are different with every customer. What’s even more exciting is that the solutions we devise to address those challenges also vary by customer. So it keeps me on my toes and allows innovation to come into everything my team and I do.
Q: So would it be fair to say that you help unlock the power of SAP for our customers in different ways all of the time?
A: Absolutely. Obviously my team and I have a specific focus, but the way we apply our expertise to a given challenge varies for each customer. Ultimately, what we are looking to do is ensure that the business needs of each customer – even the ones that are unique to their business – are addressed by SAP.
Q: You mentioned earlier the idea that innovation comes into everything you and your team does. Where do you go for new insights or ideas?
A: The depth of expertise here at SAP, as well as the willingness of other groups within SAP to share that information is one of the remarkable things about working here. At any given time, I might be speaking with colleagues in our Industry Business Units, our Standards team or individuals in the Consulting or Development organizations to find out what they are hearing and learning themselves. It gives my team the chance to learn new things, as well as provide guidance on general trends.
Q: Do you have any tips or insights for your colleagues?
A: I think the simplest way I would put it is to say, “Don’t be afraid of the unknown, but always check for the possible.”
Q: What makes you proud to work for SAP Services?
A: That’s an easy one; our people, their passion and their focus. I am always amazed how often I find colleagues who are willing – and want – to go the ‘extra mile’ to ensure something is done well. And beyond just getting it right internally, they want to make sure that the solution we create is right for the customer. It’s inspiring.
