The bring your own device (BYOD) trend for employees is in full-swing now that more users are carrying smartphones and tablets, and are wanting the flexibility to work effectively while working remotely. This trend has been a positive move for enabling employees to be more productive and providing the flexibility they want, but it has also caused trouble for IT departments faced with the challenge of managing a mobility initiative that supports a functional and secure option for multiple platforms.

From a business standpoint, BYOD is an opportunity to save some money and remove the learning curve associated with forcing employees to use a single operating platform. From a policy standpoint, this can create gray areas around mobile device content and use, and blurs the line between personal and professional use. Companies are looking to service providers to help them navigate through this process, and help them create and support a BYOD infrastructure and policy that effectively and ensures all aspects are covered.

SAP Afaria is the first mobile device management solution approved for Amazon Web Services (AWS). With the single solution cloud-based platform, it’s easier to unwire and manage a mobility initiative that securely supports multiple operating systems, can provide all necessary apps across platforms, can allow for business and personal on one device, and enables over-the-air provisioning and app delivery. SAP Afaria on AWS does not involve new infrastructure, and enterprises can gain all the benefits and robust features of on-premise mobile device management without the capital expenses.

Another feature is that while hardware and software expenses decrease, the speed to “go mobile” significantly increases and IT can take the enterprise mobile in less than 24 hours. Within that time fame and before “going mobile,” all corporate and personally owned mobile devices can be secured and configured through an easy-to-use online portal and IT can easily support. Once launched, those same devices can be easily managed and IT can provision in-house apps, data, and management policies and revoke privileges without limiting access to personal information.

SAP Afaria on AWS supports the BYOD option by allowing and encouraging employees to use their device as they wish and safely and securely access company information. The solution enables enterprises to deploy a comprehensive enterprise mobility strategy while protecting the company and its employees.
