Taking Your Career to The Next Level with SAP E-Academies
Our fast-paced work environments require us to be on the move and learning at a rapid pace, which can make it challenging to find the time for education. The catch 22 is that education can help us become more successful and help advance our careers. Fortunately, if you’re a professional looking to learn more about using and configuring SAP solutions, there is a flexible, affordable online training opportunity that can help you take your career to the next level.
The SAP Education organization offers e-academy programs, which are remotely delivered, robust training packages that provide flexible access to:
- Online learning content – courses are delivered in an e-learning format consisting of presentation slides with audio commentary, system demonstrations, practice simulations, slide notes, and mentor tips. Content can be repeated as desired during the access period.
- Training systems – hands-on experience with SAP software is a key component of the e-academy training. There are demonstrations and exercises in the student manuals and live training systems – a unique feature of the e-academy curriculum – which helps reinforce the online lessons.
- Manuals – during registration there is a unlimited access to the electronic academy course manual.
- Help-desk support – e-academies feature complete help-desk and mentoring support throughout the learning period. Technical support, frequently asked questions, and “Ask the Expert” features are provided. Online support is available via Web-based chat, virtual meetings, and scheduled expert instructor sessions.
These self-paced E-Academy trainings allow you to learn at a comfortable speed, on your own schedule, and from wherever is convenient. This model makes it easy to review content, spend more time on concepts of interest, and help you confidently develop the skills you need to implement or optimize SAP solutions.
The carefully designed modular courses and materials were created by consultants and cover key solution areas such as financials, procurement, human capital management, mobile and more. These courses can serve as steppingstones and preparation for taking the SAP certification exams that can further increase your professional value.

Hi Jen,
Thanks for a useful summary highlighting the advantages of e-academy courses. What I would have found yet more helpful would be:
- a comparison between different training formats (classroom, virtual live classroom, e-learning, e-academy etc) along with an indication of suitability for different audiences or content levels
- an evaluation of e-academy programs as a basis for certification preparation, either as a stand-alone tool or in combination with other offerings
Would you be able to point me in the direction of where one might find such information?
Kind regards,
Katsia
Hi Katsia
Thanks for your question. We have a basic summary of the different training formats on our training webshop here. However this doesn't really give an indication though of the suitability of the different formats so let me try and explain briefly.
Classroom Courses - these have been the bedrock of SAP training for a number of years now. These are ideal for people who have the time and ability to commit to a number of days in a training centre and of course you have face to face access to an Instructor throughout the duration of the course as well as the chance to interact with other students throughout the day. Some countries teach Academy courses which are a combination of classroom courses taken consecutively, designed to cover all the content needed to take an exam.
Virtual Live Classroom - these courses cover exactly the same content as classroom courses, but delivered virtually. You can take these courses from the comfort of your home or the office, all you need is a computer, a phone line and a broadband connection. You have access to ask the instructor any questions you like and they have the ability to take control of your screen to explain any problems you have. This delivery method is ideal if travel is an issue or a classroom course is not available in your country.
E-Academies - these again cover the same content as Classroom courses, but delivered in an online format. They are derived from the Academy courses covered above so are designed to cover the content needed to study for an exam. You have access to e-learning as well as access to an SAP system to undertake the exercises included in the e-learning. E-Academies are ideal for exam preparation as you have access for up to five months (depending on the title) and you can revise, practice and go back as many times as you like. While you don't have a live instructor, you do have have an Ask the Expert function to ask any questions you have.
E-Learning - Our e-learning courses often complement our classroom courses or more commonly now act as an alternative to Foundation level classroom courses. So E-learning courses may range from a one hour course to a full Foundation level course in Finance which will take a number of days to work through. These aren't designed for certification preparation but can be ideal for gaining knowledge in key areas at a time and pace suited to you.
There is more description of each of the delivery methods mentioned above on our webshop. The method you choose would depend greatly I would say on the way you like to study.. E-Academies are great if you good at organising your time and have good self-discipline.
It would be interesting to know other people's thoughts on this topic, especially people who have studied for SAP certifications using E-Academies..
Thanks
Rob
