BI4 Migration Options – EMEA Webcast Summary

Migration Services offered include an upgrade assessment, upgrade to BI 4.x, and migrate from non-SAP BI to SAP BusinessObjects.  They said if you are on a non-SAP system and move to BI they say they can help you migrate

Figure 1 shows the level of upgrade assessment services.

What is the cost, what tool services, quick upgrade assessment service, go through the inventory of objects, detailed service – 2 weeks or 4 weeks

What kind of universes and provide assessment in a template and use that for the upgrade

Figure 4 shows that your “as-is” multiple versions, and to be to move to a newer version, but lack understanding of offerings or don’t realize impacts

Figure 4 is to help move from current situation to new BIP 4.x

Upgrade you to latest BI platform – follow predefined assessment

Complete solution design will be done by SAP

If required, will have a pilot project

SAP has delivery accelerators, including defined requirements and scope.

Figure 5 shows that it starts with the assessment, use those results, review and confirm findings and approaches

Then based on the assessment , design infrastructure and install solution

They will design upgrade process for that content and it includes the testing part as well

It would also be a pilot project – could be part of the phase, and then subsequently move the other content.  It includes a proper project plan for charter, providing standard guidelines and processes

Figure 6 shows 3 major components of the upgrade service, including installing the new BI platform, uUse the UMT to migrate content to this platform, and promoting it using LCM to production

They said experience shows that 5% of objects need manual intervention, upgrade security

The speakers said they have case studies of moving Actuate to BI for a large bank in North America

Question & Answer

Q: In 4.1 do we get Desktop Intelligence tool or do we need to migrate to Web Intelligence?

A: 4.1 you do not get a Desktop Intelligence Reporting tool; in 4.1 allows you to import reports into the platform and open and edit using the Desktop Intelligence client (XI 3.x)

Q: What is the cost to implement new system?

A: Depends on how many reports are there, types of reports, depends on universes; contact your local sales representatives

Q: What kind of objects do not automatically move during migration?

A: This would be provided during the assessment phase and depends on the features not supported in the latest version – linked universes are not supported is one example.

Q: Will it be possible to search in Explorer using relational operators in the Explorer facets?

A: No

Q: Can we install 4.1 in the same server as 4.0?

A: Yes
