Every day, I hear about another cool application of technology to solve real business problems.  Would you like to see some of these in action?

At the SAP Retail Forum, http://spr.ly/RForum13 we’re driving up the Big Data Bus – yes, it’s literally a bus, with driver, and instead of just comfy seats, it will be loaded with real software – some of these are real money-makers and productivity boosters.

My colleagues have shared some of the fun on-board.  I thought I’d share it with you:

Real Time Offer Management:  Precision Gaming (Bingo)

See the power of real time targeted consumer offers in a fun interactive way with this Precision Gaming demonstration. This demo showcases a combination of HANA and its real-time analytic processing of Big Data coupled with predictive analytics.

Audience Discovery and Targeting (Customer Segmentation)

Retailers can quickly segment large customer populations for targeted promotions and marketing campaigns using a hierarchical “Decision Tree”.  This solution is tightly integrated with HANA Predictive Analytics to enable retailers to perform analysis on very large customer populations with a rapid response.

Sales Analysis for Retail

Given the volume and velocity of data, Retailers often end up with analytics which are based on aggregated and stale data.  Sales Analysis for Retail provides rich content for every critical decision that is based on the most granular data in near real-time.  Across the organization, whether it is in Merchandising, Marketing or Store Operations, employees now have access to a consistent view of results enabling them to makebetter decisions.  Based on an NRF ARTS data model and leveraging the power of HANA, we provide the tools to improve profitability and performance.

Vending Machine Merchandising in Real-Time

See how inventory and sales data can be managed in real time in a fully automated vending machine. The supply chain can be automatically triggered to replenish inventory and you can gain valuable consumer insight into demand and trends directly from the sales collected at the point of purchase.

SAP Data Services: Text Data Processing with Hadoop

This next one smacks of propeller-head big data fun.  Unstructured data is being accumulated by retailers at an incredible rate. Consider all of the social media, promotional content and business documents your organization collects and manages every day.  This one promises to showcase a mind-bending amount of data being used to gather insights.

This demo will show how SAP is integrated with Hadoop to load and manage unstructured data in a real time in-memory database (SAP HANA). This technology will allow your business users to gain quick easy access to large volumes of unstructured content for analysis and deeper insight into
your business operations.

Sounds like a quick trip to Dallas October 7th to 9th will include a free bus ride!  Register now at: http://spr.ly/RForum13

AJ, it might be best to ask in the HANA area of SCN. In my mind, (personal opinion only) as we’re seeing HANA/Hadoop synergies, and Hadoop distributions like Cloudera’s are prominent, it would certainly make sense for the interactive query capabilities of Impala to be able to run. (It may already work – would have to do some digging).  Am less familiar with Apache Cassandra and whether it makes sense in this context.
