Announcing the SCN Topic Leaders 2012-2013
The wait is over! I know many of you are looking forward to finding out who are the SCN Topic Leaders for the contest period August 1, 2012 to July 31, 2013. Thank you for your patience as I put this list together, it is longer than it has ever been 🙂
As explained in my earlier blog post, the program now recognizes more members in many diverse areas, thus representing the breadth of contributions on SCN. I hope that you will find the list below meaningful and that it will help you get to know people in your area of interest.
As a reminder, people listed here earned at least 440 points in the contest period, in a space where topic expertise can be determined – certain areas such as Getting Started or Events are not included.
Perks
Unfortunately we are not able to give a free TechEd pass to the Topic Leaders, we didn’t do it in the previous years either. But if you are making plans to come we would like to know about it so that we give you the opportunity to meet the SCN team and SAP Mentors there, and to get well-deserved recognition on stage at the DemoJam event.
You will soon receive an Acknowledgement of Achievement per e-mail and a new shiny badge on SCN.
Acknowledgements
Many thanks to Bunchball and Sean Yang for helping me put this list together, as well as Audrey Stevenson Jeanne Carboni and Chip Rodgers for the guidance as we worked together to update the program.
Thank you to the SCN Moderators and Space Editors who reviewed the list with me.
Kudos and Thank-Yous to SAP employees who support the community in many ways but are not listed here:
Rui Nogueira for his work to encourage community engagement around the HANA Cloud Developer Platform
Juergen Schmerder behind the scenes of the Developer Community, organizing InnoJam events across the worlds and supporting the geeky SAP fans with various programs and activities
Diem Lam who manages the University Alliances Community
SCN Team members such as Jason Lax, who answers many community questions in the SCN Support space, Audrey Stevenson who manages gamification with me, and Mark Finnern who manages the SAP Mentor program together with Ali Samieivafa and Maria Farrales.
I don’t want these people to think that they are forgotten, because they did earn a significant amount of points as part of their jobs in the contest year. Thank you guys for all your efforts with these programs!
Please join me in congratulating our SCN Topic Leaders 2012-2013!

Honored to make the list with some many folks I respect and how impressive is Tammy Powlas to make the list in 7 different categories #WOW!
Hi Laurie,
adding to and confirming the previous comments, you've done a wonderful job, and what a huge task and then writing the blog, amazing.
To be honest I am not sure why I am in the About SCN section (I don't think I have earned it), think it might be because of the Wiki, the SAP NetWeaver Basis Administrator's Toolbox I get two points everytime it's edited, and the points somehow go in the About SCN section.
For sure there are people out there much more deserving of this recognition and so I would like to dedicate my place in the list to the unsung heros working away supporting the community across the community, this is for all of you.
All the best and Laurie, have a great weekend, you deserve it.
Andy.
Hi Andy,
Thanks. Yes it took a little while to write the blog with all the names in a nice format, not a table 😉 But it's fine, it's great to see such a long list and everyone congratulating everyone else.
I thought you were actually active on About SCN, and not just the wiki. I will have to check. Thanks for dedicating your award to those who support the community.
Laure
also like to add, it's nice to see Kenny Tully in the list, Kenny has solved so many deep deep Java Stack Basis Admin challenges for me over the years.
Good job Kenny.
Andy.
Hi Laure and SCN Team members,

Congratulations to all Leaders;
Juergen L Bijay Kumar Barik and Manoj Karthik, thanks for your valuable contribution & guidance
Laure thanks for sharing 🙂
Hi Laure, hi SCN team,
it's quite an honor to be regarded as a topic leader, yet the more I think about it the more I feel it's not right for me to be on that list! Since I started my new role
within the SAP HANA Cloud Platform team blogging and encouraging others to blog is part of my job. Hence, it's unfair to compete with others outside of SAP.
As such i'd like to step back so that the honor goes to people who are really moving the needle! In regards to cloud Dick Hirsch and Chris Paine are the ones who deserve all the credits in my PoV. They keep sharing on a regular basis and post great content!
Many thanks for your understanding!
Cheers,
matthias
I like your comment, but it wouldn't make you one bit less of a topic leader. Sorry... 🙂
Well... shouldn't the same set of rules and circumstances be applied to everyone it's an unfair advantage - hence I feel it's not earned rightfully. Look at Tammy for a moment ... she puts in the extra effort and helps people day-in/day out ... in her spare time!
That deserves recognition! Me, I'm only doing my job. I love it and having the opportunity to engage with the community every day is the biggest rewards of all...
The recognition of being a topic leader should go to people who are outside of SAP and who make a significant impact to drive a topic forward. ( my 2 cents!)
BR,
Matthias
Agree - especially when the non-SAP contributors are most likely reducing the need for customer support messages in SAP marketplace.
ok, thanks for providing more information and context. As you can see I'm gradually processing the 200+ comments 😉
To some extent I agree with you that SAP employees doing their job shouldn't be on the list, but it's a fine line when you look at the content provided in the community. If it's content that goes beyond managing a program, don't you think it's applicable for recognition? That's how I felt about you, but yes we can have the discussion 🙂
Hi Matthias,
I'm not sure I understand. Dick Hirsch and Chris Paine are on the list, so I think it's ok to share a bit of fame with them as well, right? Or do you mean you want to be taken off the list altogether? Feel free to email me if you want to discuss offline.
Laure
Congratulation leaders ¡

Luis

Hi Laure,
Thanks a lot for compiling this list.
I wonder why ERP PLM is not included for evaluation. All other ERP forums are listed but only one is missing? 🙁
http://scn.sap.com/community/erp/plm-classification-and-variant-configuration
Thanks
Ritesh
Hi Ritesh,
maybe no one have reached 440 points in the year (aug-jul), this was the minimum requirements to be in the list.
Regards
Roberto
Thanks for reply Roberto Vidotti
Even though its mention in Laure Cetin post too , "As a reminder, people listed here earned at least 440 points in the contest period, in a space where topic expertise can be determined"
But I can see PS forum where no buddy crosses aprox 200 yearly point., but forum as well as members are in list.
SAP Project Systems (SAP PS)
Check your self.
Thanks
Ritesh
Hi Ritesh,
I'm checking each comment at a time, sorry I didn't see this additional information before.
Our reports showed people well above 500 points in Project Systems when we put this list together, so maybe the leaderboard is showing different numbers now because the calculation is always changing due to the 12-month rolling points. If activity continues to decrease there, then the space will not be listed next year.
I can't check right now because the leaderboards are re-populating after a bug linked to gamification platform maintenance over the weekend...
Laure
Hi Ritesh,
I'm not from SAP so maybe you're right about SAP PS, but remember that in these recent days there are problems with points calculation so you have to wait some days to see the real points.
Regards
Roberto
Hi Ritesh,
The amount of activity in the ERP PLM was too low to be included in this contest, as I explained with the 440-point threshold, which is our indicator.
Laure
Congratulations to All the Topic Leaders.
Every one in SAP community truly appreciate all your contributions.
Best Wishes for many success.
