This document describes the SAP Landscape Virtualization Management scenarios with DB2 on z/OS. For other IBM platforms refer to the parent document IBM on-premise cloud configuration for SAP.

The IBM z Systems architecture is different than other platforms, hence the supported scenarios look different.

  • Database storage is managed through DB2.
  • DB2 for z/OS usually runs in datasharing mode in a Parallel Sysplex enabling business continuity.
  • SAP Central Services may run on z/OS while other SAP application server instances run on AIX, Linux, or Windows.

Monitoring and visualization:

  • End-to-end OS, DB and SAP monitoring and visualization is supported for z/OS, Linux on z Systems, and DB2 for z/OS via SAP host agent.
  • For the application servers see support statements of the respective platform.

Database scenarios:

The IBM Database Provisioning System was developed to reduce the operational complexity involved in creating, managing and copying SAP database server environments on z Systems. The solution enables database administrators and system programmers to configure and fully automate the standard tasks needed to deploy an SAP database server environment. SAP Landscape Virtualization Management integrates with IBM Database Provisioning System for the purpose of Clone/Copy/Refresh scenario.

Use Case Description Dependencies

System Refresh (DB only)

Fast online cloning of database DB2 on z/OS (non-HA configuration)

DB2 data-sharing configurations are supported

Application servers may run on AIX, Linux on z Systems, Linux x86, or Windows

IBM Database Provisioning System

and IBM DB2 Cloning Tool

System Refresh (Full)

Fast online cloning of database DB2 on z/OS (non-HA configuration)

DB2 data-sharing configurations are supported

Application servers may run on AIX, Linux on z Systems, or Linux x86

System Copy

Fast online copy of database and complete SAP system (non-HA configuration)

with application servers on AIX, Linux on z Systems, or Linux x86

System Rename Rename SAP system

SAP scenarios:

  • Post-Copy Automation is supported.
  • For Automatic Capacity Management including provisioning of additional dialog instances see support statements of the respective platform.
