This was hosted by the SAP Public Sector group, geared toward US Federal customers.  I use the public sector solution (for financials) where I work, so I thought I would attend.  I joined this webcast late, so I missed the speaker names.  What is new here is SAP shares their ramp-up statistics and go-live customers, and certain situations unique to the public sector.

At the introduction of the webcast SAP said Lumira Cloud is the path to mobile.  The speakers also said “Lumira does not replace Explorer”.

The speakers said that BI4.1 went generally available 2 months earlier than expected.  They said that 2-3 customers were live in first week of ramp-up.  Large customers such as 3M and FedEx are live with BI4.1

SAP is listening while moving out of BI4 to BI4.1 making this the “quality” release.

They also said “This is the migration release”

SAP moved to SAP JAM for collaboration

The developer can take advantage of RESTful web services, and SDK’s

SAP said you can call 4.1 “the developer’s release” as comes with more SDK’s

The speaker said “the Federal world still clings to Desktop Intelligence” – Web Intelligence is the go-forward.  BI 4.1 has the option to use Desktop Intelligence – turned a way to temporary way for Desktop Intelligence

This is also the re-debut of “off-line dashboarding”

This is “the happy release” for Oracle he said with more access, and Hadoop, Teradata capabilities

Figure 4 shows that an XI 3.1 SP6 client can connect to BI4.1 CMS

Question & Answer:

Q: Is Dashboarding part of the 4.1 license?

A: Kind of; depends on how you license the tool-set; pushing for more of a concurrent based license. Can still purchase still a-la carte; if purchase BI Suite, Dashboarding comes with that

Q: Licensing implication for exposing a web service?

A: Once web service exists, it can live by itself without license implications
