MUNICH — The SAP University Alliances program is holding the 18th SAP Academic Conference EMEA from September 12-13, 2013, at the Technische Universität München (TUM) in Munich, Germany. The annual conference for member faculties from all over Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) brings together leading educators and experts to discuss topics such as shaping the future of higher education, driving the channel for innovation from universities to the SAP ecosystem and building the new SAP ecosystem through talent of the futuree

The conference provides a platform for attendees to exchange ideas and share experiences with colleagues and partners. Participants also have the opportunity to network and make contacts for future collaboration, co-innovation and research development. This year, the event coincides with the 10th anniversary of the University Competence Center (UCC) location in Munich, which will be celebrated at a dedicated evening reception on September 12, 2013.

The 2013 SAP Academic Conference EMEA focuses on the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region. A designated roundtable devoted to cross-European educational and scientific collaboration in the sphere of information systems and business process management will be held as a pre-conference evening event. On the main conference day, a memorandum of understanding is intended to be signed on stage to mark the start of collaboration on the development of a master’s program on the SAP for Banking solution portfolio with Moscow State University of Foreign Relations (MGIMO). The idea of the master’s program was inspired by the development of the financial services market in Russia and the launch of the SAP Transactional Banking package in CIS. The FSI center of expertise and the banking pre-sales group within SAP CIS are aiming to support the program with open lectures and training material to make students and faculty staff of the program familiar with SAP solutions for banking.

10 Years of Successful Co-Operation
Founded on October 2, 2003, with 30 connected academic institutions, the UCC location in Munich now has 191 member institutions. It serves 1,460 registered professors and 43,600 students and is one of the largest UCC locations worldwide.

“We are proud to have established the UCC location in Munich together with SAP and IBM as an internationally recognized center of expertise for education using SAP software in the last 10 years,” said Prof. Dr. Helmut Krcmar, Chair of Information Systems and Dean of the Faculty Informatics at TUM. “While we have embraced and moved forward many innovations in providing educational services for students and teachers, we look forward to continue doing so.”

To further enhance the flow of ideas and expertise between TUM and the SAP ecosystem, the university plans to use the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud service for universities in the context of a university co-innovation center. It will allow TUM professors and students to better share their knowledge and ideas by getting involved in TUM research projects, as well as co-innovation projects with the SAP ecosystem. The collaboration on SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud will also be a key input to the SAP ecosystem, enabling the participation of talented students skilled in SAP’s innovation platform, design thinking and the future of business.

Shaping the Future of Higher Education
As a global initiative with more than 1,400 member institutions in over 80 countries, the SAP University Alliances program aims to shape the future of higher education. It promotes a practical and future-oriented education by providing access to the latest SAP technologies to over 8,000 tutors and more than 1.4 million students worldwide. The program supports universities and vocational schools to actively integrate SAP software into their teaching as well as to run their own operations on the most innovative SAP software.

During the 18th SAP Academic Conference EMEA, it was announced that universities now can give ECTS credit points and equivalents in other regions for openSAP courses.

“openSAP has proven to be a very successful approach for SAP to rollout innovations at scale,” said Bernd Welz, executive vice president and global head, Solution and Knowledge Packaging, SAP AG. “The great number of participants and the extremely high success rate, which is significantly above current best practice of other platforms such as Udacity or Coursera, proves that this way of learning has great potential. Twenty-eight universities around the globe will now also provide academic credits to students who take openSAP courses in the new semester.”\

SAP University Alliances also opens up the vast innovative potential of the global academic community to the entire SAP ecosystem by enabling young bright minds to participate and contribute their ideas in competitions and industry contests as well as in co-innovation and joint research projects. The program also provides connections among students, customers, partners and SAP experts through networking and educational activities as well as social media, increasing access to SAP solutions, careers and opportunities.

“Education is the key to innovation and social development,” said Ann Rosenberg, global head, SAP University Alliances. “SAP University Alliances helps to educate the talent of the future by empowering students to better prepare for a successful career path within the vibrant SAP ecosystem, be it at one of our customers or partners or at SAP itself.”
