Bonfiglioli runs better with SAP SCM rapid-deployment solutions

Bonfiglioli is a midsize Italian industrial component manufacturer that had a manually-based planning process that used MS Excel, subsequently only achieved low visibility on planning data, while experiencing the pain of inaccurate and improperly allocated products and scattered planning environments.

 

Before Bonfiglioli’s implementation of SAP Demand Planning rapid-deployment solution, the different departments of their component manufacturer were weakly connected, with different targets, talking different planning languages and acting in inconsistent ways. The solution therefore had to provide a single planning platform and join these dislocated pieces of information into a comprehensive communication system within the planning organization. To connect and enhance the company’s planning capabilities the deployment teams developed a new process based on a single environment that supports them in the entry door of the extended Supply Chain: the demand planning process.
Bonfiglioli deployed the SAP Supply Chain Management rapid deployment solution to achieve substantial improvements with the core content of the solution package.
They were able to go live with two SAP Rapid Deployment Solutions, namely the SAP Demand Planning rapid-deployment solution  and the SAP Global Available to Promise rapid-deployment solution combined in a single project in as little as 17 work weeks. The preparation involved an enhanced collaboration facilitated by a single project location where all, the business team and the IT team from Bonfiglioli as well as the APO consultants from the service providers where located. They installed a project portal to share documentation effectively and established a simplified governance model that has been designed to keep any decisional process as simple as possible.

Bonfiglioli’s way to a quick start implementation – in only 17 weeks

After the SAP Rapid Deployment Solution was deployed, Bonfiglioli reduced planning activities by around 70%, for example, by facilitating loading and storing massive volumes of planning data. They significantly lowered their planning errors due to quota allocation misalignments by 100 %. The company now makes use of planning KPIs and alerts to improve the reliability of the master plan, leading to a more accurate forecast and a more stable plan. They also reduced the response time to evaluate changes required to the demand plan by 50 %. Ultimately, the company managed to reduce the number of systems used for planning from four to one and can now even profit from the optimized system synchronization, because the SAP solution facilitates the exchange of planning and sales data between SAP ECC and SAP APO seamlessly.
