Lumira vs Explorer – Self Service BI Tools comparison
Dear All,
Recently I got a chance evaluate the capabilities of SAP Lumira against BusinessObjects Explorer. Though both are Self Service BI tools and complement each other in most of the cases, below are some of my findings to differentiate both the tools. Feel free to add as much as you can in the table below if you come across something.
Category | Sub Category | Lumira | Explorer |
---|---|---|---|
Data Acquisition | Tool Selection | Used wherever data acquisition, Transformation and excellent Visualizations needed | Used for Search and data exploration with visualization needs |
Data integration layer | No need of Information space. Data source can be accessed directly | Needs Information space which is an intermediate layer between User and data source. | |
Data Acquisition | Data acquisition is performed by the Business user | The task of creating and maintaining Information Space is usually accomplished by an IT person or a BI system administrator, not the business users themselves. | |
Data Transformation | Hierarchy creation | Custom Hierarchies creation is not supported other than Time and Geo data. |
Not Available |
Data source Merging | Data source merging is possible thus it is possible to merge local and departmental data |
No provision for data source merging | |
Column/Data Manipulation | We can create/Modify the available columns and the data in the columns of the data set. |
Not Available | |
Data Cleansing | Data cleansing is possible for columns that contains Geographical and Time series data by using NAVTEQ Sybase IQ database |
Not Available | |
Data Visualization | Visualization choice | More advanced visualizations choices and greater granular control over the final product (i.e.) visualization |
Visualizations are built and rendered automatically based on the Dataset with limited option to change the Visualization |
Custom Charts | Extensions (Custom charts) can be created and deployed using SDK | Not Available |
Hope the blog is interesting . Thanks for reading.
