With a shortage of IT skills around the world that is expected to exceed 700,000 unfilled high-tech and IT jobs by 2015 in EMEA alone, SAP has committed to a number of initiatives aimed at addressing the IT skills gap. SAP Education and SAP University Alliances are ideally suited to help tackle this issue, and the two organizations have been working closely to develop programs and initiatives specifically targeting universities. The cornerstone of this collaboration is SAP Student Academy, which complements such programs as Academy Cube and SAP Skills for Africa.

Innovative Partnership is First of its Kind in Africa

On September 4, SAP announced it will partner with Continuing Education at University of Pretoria to facilitate SAP skills development among its student base, with the specific aim of creating skilled, industry-ready professionals and fostering future job creation in Africa. The strategic partnership between Continuing Education at University of Pretoria (CE at UP) and SAP signals a pro-active response to address the skills development challenges in Africa by providing e-learning based training leading to SAP Certification.

"Developing the right business and ICT skills is important in addressing some of the biggest challenges facing the African market,” noted Bernadine Jeffrey, SAP Africa Education Channel Manager. "This innovative partnership with CE at UP is the first of its kind in Africa, as it allows students to pursue tertiary education while getting the necessary SAP skills; resulting in industry and market place-ready individuals.”

The University of Pretoria is a member of SAP’s University Alliance program, which connects more than one million university students worldwide, increasing their access to SAP solutions, careers, and skills development opportunities.

Collaboration with Universities

Since its launch in June 2013, the SAP Student Academy program has seen significant interest among universities worldwide. By offering SAP Education’s e-learning content within SAP Student Academy to universities, SAP is helping them equip students with the knowledge needed to get started in the job market.

SAP Student Academy is a joint initiative between SAP Education and SAP University Alliances that aims to increase the placement of SAP certification curricula within the university sector through the provision of high-value electronic learning content. It includes access to the well-established SAP E-Academy certification training offering from SAP Education, which consists of an extensive suite of e-learning courses mapped to the knowledge requirements of the respective SAP certification, along with other supporting learning elements, such as simulations, demonstrations, and exercises.

Students are not the only ones who stand to benefit: SAP customers and partners see programs like SAP Student Academy as an excellent opportunity to support their hiring efforts with pre-qualified SAP resources.
