Google BigQuery support for the SAP BI platform
Dear SCN User,
Currently I am working on an Pilot / Prototype to connect the SAP BusinessObjects BI4.x platform against Google BigQuery. In collaboration with our Developer teams, Google BigQuery Teams and Simba teams we have been able to connect the BI4.x clients against Google BigQuery.
We reached the state that we are looking for a pilot environment/customer whom is interested in validating the connectivity.
Although the pilot is build against BI4.x clients, this would not limit the prototype if you are currently using the XI3.x platform.
Currently we have been able to connect the following BI clients to run against a Google BigQuery datasource:
– Universe Design Tool
– Information Design Tool
– Explorer
– Web Intelligence
– Crystal Reports 2011
– Dashboards 4.0
– Lumira 1.x (via Universe)
To put the cards open on the table, this is a prototype and connection to BigQuery is not yet fully supported. However, if we recieve enough requests for access to BigQuery and have a successfull Pilot project, SAP is planning to further investigate the addition of Google BigQuery support to it’s portfolio.

Can we connect normally to Big query like connecting SQL Anywhere?
I would like to know the configuration steps (brief images) in Information Design Tool side. And I cannot find "Google" in PAM, what will be the middleware? Thank you so much for your comment.

Hi Chika,
As mentioned in the post: this is a prototype and connection to BigQuery is not yet fully supported.. therefor you will not find Google BigQuery in the PAM for the BI4x platform.
We are currently awaiting the results of the Pilot that is running, once this is completed, I will publish the document on how to enable the connectivity and required drivers in SCN. If available, I will update this post as well..

We have a bug in Bigquery with SAP BO IDT that lets us insert the tables in the data Foundation but when retrieving values from the tables or joins between the tables we get this error: -> [Simba] [BigQuery] (70 ) Invalid query .Unrecognized name D70_DIMENSION. D70_DIMENSION is the name of one of the datasets
The connection to the database does not give a problem. In fact, as you can, we can retrieve the tables from the google big query dataset, please see screenshots below
We use sap bo idt version 4.2 support pack 6 and for BigQuery is EI API V2

in order to connect on BigQuery do you use SAP BI 4.3 ? otherwise Do you configured in a particular way , using for instance JDBC, SAP BI 4.2 in order to connect on BIgQuery ?
