Step 1: Create system DSN Connection for directory which contains your Flat files or Text files on BO 4.0 server and client machine.

Note: Create both 32-bit and 64-bit DSN on BO Server as some SAP BO Reporting tools are using 64-bit DSN connection and some are using 32-bit connection

Step 2 : Open IDT, create a new project as shown in snapshot below.

Type relevant project name and click on finish

Step 3: Create Relational Connection in Information Design tool,

Goto project and right click on it, select new then Relational Connection as in snapshot below

  • Would you please let me know if this approach was successful?? In my project similar situation and my question to the group is ..will there be any performance issues when multiple users accessing the universe which is pointing the text, csv file.

    1. Please help me understand the Pros & Cons of this approach

    2. This approach is suitable in what circumstances.

Thank you for the article it was very much useful for me.

  • Hi Ambreen,

I tried this method in IDT, I am able to build query on server and publish it to enterprise, but I am not able to view the date in query on BI Launch pad its throughing the below error:

Database error: [Microsoft] [ODBC Driver Manger] Data source not found an dno default driver specified.(IES 10901) (WIS 10901).

can you please guide me on this issue

      • Thanks for your response,

I have created a 32 - bit odbce connection by using Micorsoft text drivers. I published this to enterprise.

I built a query on universe.

I am able view this query on client tools, but not on BI Launc pad.

When I view this on BI Lauchpad I am getting below error.

Database error: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data Source name not found and no

        default driver specifed.(IES 10901)

On my 64 - bit ODBC Administrator tool I can't see Microsoft drivers...

please advise me on this issue..
