Now, SAP continues the successful openSAP Enterprise MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) format and announced the new course Introduction to Mobile Solution Development for the Enterprise for developers to be launched on September 9, 2013.

The course runs over six weeks and consists of video based lectures, system demos, hand-outs, self-tests, graded weekly assignments and a final exam. Modules are released on a weekly basis allowing for discussion and collaboration to keep focus on one topic and simplify the experience for participants who are required to spend flexibly four to six hours of study time per week.

Participants continuously engage with the openSAP team and content experts through the online discussion forum.

Course Summary & Content

Mobile technology has become an integral component in our lives and is driving the expectations of how we interact with our business systems.
Like SAP, top businesses today recognize the value of enabling their employees to work anytime, anywhere through the use of mobile technologies.
However, providing this ability in an enterprise context can become quite tricky.

Mobile devices come in various forms and run a variety of operating systems.
You will learn, how SAP allows enterprises to support its employee-owned mobile devices and maintain control over the cost and complexity of development.

Enterprises often have many disparate backend systems containing the data they wish to mobilize.
This course will show how enterprises can use SAP’s Mobile Platform to integrate into this environment cost-effectively and securely.

Enterprise transactions and data are generally quite sensitive in nature and making that data secure is often of prime concern to businesses.
In this course, you will learn about the tools SAP offers to deal with mobile data security concerns.

We certainly want to be able to do business on our phones and tablets, but we’re not necessarily aware of what needs to go on behind the scenes to enable this.

In this course, we’ll learn what it takes to make an enterprise-ready app with SAP Mobile solutions.

  • Week 1: Introduction to Mobile Development
  • Week 2: Enterprise Mobility
  • Week 3: Creating an Enterprise-ready Application
  • Week 4: OData
  • Week 5: Client Design and Implementation Choices
  • Week 6: Enterprise Security Concept & Outlook

Registration and course participation is free and open to all audiences.

Forbes just ran an article on the benefits of attending MOOCs over other forms of learning, and cited openSAP as a good example. This is exciting and innovative, especially for those of us scattered all over the world.

Just posted a quick update to this topic and referenced this blog post; there is more hands-on content SAP offers that could potentially work well alongside this openSAP course: http://scn.sap.com/community/mobile/blog/2013/08/14/going-hands-on-with-what-you-learn-from-the-new-opensap-course-on-mobile-development

      Hi Michaela Laemmler ,

Thanks for informing us about the new course. I enrolled for the Introduction to Software Development on SAP HANA and thoroughly enjoyed it. The deadlines were a bit tight...but it forced me to plan my week accordingly. Would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in understanding SAP HANA.

I have been playing around with infographics and the recent blogpost on key metrics for the course motivated me to come up with the infographic below.

Was blown away by the stats.

Congrats to you and the rest of the team!

Just to add a comment on developement systems for the course:

If your primary interest in taking this course is getting a technical overview about mobile solution development for the enterprise, you do not need access to a development system. However, we realise that many of you might be interested in developing your own code, based on the instructions in the course. Therefore we have summarised the major development system requirements and installation procedures in this document on the SAP Community Network (SCN).

      All described systems are free-of-charge.
      Best regards, Michaela
