The academia – industry collaboration that was long missing in Indian education has been established by Bharath University, which recently signed an MoU with SAP India, a business service provider and Atos, an international IT services company. This was done in order to provide industrial exposure to students to give them the skills necessary for employment.
Every year, India produces over 2.5 million university graduates, of which 20 per cent are technical graduates. According to a NASSCOM report, only 25 per cent of these technical graduates are considered employable by IT and ITES companies due to the inadequacies of skills.
“The industry requires students who are employable, which will be possible only when they are industry-ready. The industries ask us to train students in colleges so that they can be billable employees. So, to bridge this gap between industries and universities, we will provide SAP training to 4000 students in Bharath university who will have better edge than other students,” said Mageshwari Ramaiah, Head (Education) SAP India.
Atos India is also an authorized SAP training partner contributing to the SAP ecosystem by providing the largest number of trained SAP consultants. Atos is likely to start a centre of excellence in Bharath University to enable students to get the required exposure.
“These students will be actively involved with Atos by researching and working on few real time projects of Atos. This will make them more SAP friendly and more confident while they enter any industry,” said Sundeep Aanand, Chancellor and President of Bharath University.
Sundeep also added that this system, which has been introduced to Engineering graduates, will be a part of the curriculum and be open to other courses like dental and medicine too in the future.
