Value xxx for variable yyy is invalid

We recently went to SAP NW BW 7.3 EHP 1 SPS5 and since then selecting a single leaf in a hierarchy variable wouldn’t work anymore.

If you ran the query selecting the parent note of this element it worked and later on you could filter on the single leaf.

I opened a Note with SAP and we went back and forth for almost a month.

In the end the suggestion was to implement Note 1783609. (Which at that point wasn’t relevant for 7.31)

SAP made the documented changes now being relevant but included in SPS5.

This lead to another change making it relevant also for SPS5. Finally we were able to implement the note with two additional downloads of 1754225; 1636255.

Took us a month so I figured writing a little snippit might help someone else faster.. Should you be on SPS5 this is how you can solve it..
