Years on... Mobile is now a part of most of our lifestyle and reaches most areas of our everyday lives… Relaxation, Shopping, Social etc. It is also now a foundation of Enterprise Business, allowing the extension of business data and existing systems into the hand of the mobile information worker, out on the road.

There are still massive benefits to all users, but are we now harder to please, as experienced mobile users?  I would say we are as we have higher expectations with Apps and Devices alike. While I mention Apps, would you believe that the Apple App Store (the classic example of a perfect infrastructure to promote and deploy apps) is only 5 years old today - July 10 2013.

New Devices, OS Features and Apps are launched with increasing frequency and nowadays only a very few get the adulation and praise from the mobile audience. I'm thinking that we have become desensitised by the technology that we adore and now take it as a given fact of the modern world.

What I believe is the next wave, could put that spark back into our mobile interest - IOT (Internet Of Things). Enabling the bi-directional exchange of information between mobile and non-traditional tech enabled hardware. We are already seeing initial iEnabled tech arriving in stores, such as electric bulbs and thermostats but let me give you a future example, the king of white goods, that we could now no longer live without...

The Fridge Freezer or iCEBox 😉 could monitor its contents and communicate to our store app of choice, reorder information. Just another chore out of the way! Beyond that any household item could securely synchronise self diagnostic information to the traditional database systems of 3rd party maintenance companies, that you have agreements in place.

For the manufacturer of tomorrow's goods, all of these design possibilities drives innovation, innovation powers brand, brand builds loyalty, and loyalty sustains profits.

For the mobile developers of tomorrow it offers development possibilities, that could extent the reach of their code away from the pocket world of today, making the device in our hands more powerful than we know today, with apps that control & communicate into the real world!
