SAP Notes Search & Analysis Process Guide:

  1. 1.    Business Scenario:

In certain circumstances, many of our business needs can’t be satisfied through different Enhancement Options available within SAP. (i.e. Business-Adins, Enhancement Packages, User-Exits etc.) In such circumstances, for fulfilling our specific business needs, we have to be purely dependent on SAP, which means our specific needs, either can be satisfied through Implementation of SAP Support Package or through the Implementation of SAP Notes. SAP Support Package is nothing but a bunch of different SAP Notes itself. Each SAP Note is supporting specific business needs. Sometimes, implementing of one SAP Note is dependent on other SAP Note Implementation which means Note: X is pre-requisite for Note: Y and without Implementation of Note: Y, Note: X will not function properly.

In general scenario, SAP basis team is liable for Implementation of SAP Note after proper analysis and review of different functional and technical leads.

  1. 2.    About SAP Notes:

Each SAP Notes consist of specific Numeric Digits/Numbers through which it can be identified and which always remain unique throughout the process. Again, certain Notes are country specific which means for that particular country only required. While majority of Notes are country-independent. Each Note is having it’s own Release date, Effective date and Version. (i.e. 604, 605, 701, 502) Note can be available and Implemented in any of following languages:

-German

-English

-Japanese

Notes are specific to certain Application areas of SAP. (i.e. For SAP HCM Module: PY-AU, PY-SG, PY-NL, PY-GB, PY-ZA, PY-XX, PY-MY, PY-CA, PY-US, PY-US-BSI, PY-US-TR) and each Note covers relevant short description. For Analysis and Review of SAP Note, special access is required from SAP Service Market Place itself.

Here we will cover different snaps of SAP Service Market Place for further review and analysis purpose of SAP Note.

  1. Step-by-Step Procedure

Enter your Username and Password in SAP Service Market Place: https://websmp205.sap-ag.de/login

You will get following screen for SAP NOTES SEARCH:

If you are knowing SAP Note Number then enter as per below in Number Field and Press the right button besides it.

You will find below screen which covers whole Note Description and it’s summary:

Click on PDF button to download the Note in PDF format at your desktop.

Symptom: describes the shortcoming of the existing system which can be solved after implementing of Note.

Other terms: describes the affected relevant terms.

Reason & Prerequisites: describes the reason for implementation and if any pre-requisite steps or Notes necessary for same.

Header Data: describes Notes Header details.

Affected Releases: describes the different release versions.

Correction delivered in Support package: describes relevant support package name.

Corrections Instructions: describes instructions to be follow while implementing the Note.

Click on the relevant link in Correction Instructions. (i.e. 1373005)

One will find below screen which covers changes required at methods, Functions, Class or relevant object. Sometimes, one will find relevant pre requisite Notes as well here.

Click the relevant Object Name. (i.e. CL_OADP_UTILITY_GET_IMAGE_URL).

You will find the relevant code where actual changes are required for our business needs. It covers the details of Insertion block as well as Deletion block.

The other way of finding Note is filling additional criteria.

Here also one can use either of below two methods:

(1)   Load Template Method

-       Here click on Load Template and select the relevant template. The template has been created with a prefix “NEW_PY”.

You will find below screen with relevant Application Area and Software Components.

Provide additional criteria for searching notes between two dates.

Click on Search will result in respective available notes based on selection criteria.

(2)   Search from Application Area itself.

Here provide relevant Application area (i.e. PY-AU) only and search.

Please note that both the methods ensure that no note is missed out.

Based on above Note selection, prior to implementation of Note, further analysis of Notes to be done which usually covers following criteria. (Based on customer specific needs)

(4)   Note Effective Date

(5)   Country

(6)   Functional Area

(7)   Description

(8)   Detailed Description / Symptom
