After a late night watching the 2013 Stanley Cup finals I woke up in search of something to eat. I thought it would be fitting to go to the 60 Carlton St Loblaws location. For those that are not familiar with Toronto, Loblaws is a grocery store chain in Canada and the 60 Carlton location is inside the old Toronto’s Maple Leafs Gardens. This was a major part of the city’s original identity and has lived on because the space has been renewed as a retail complex. The reuse of the building is a great example of innovation, you can learn more about it in this article. The pictures above are some of the banners that wrap the original area posts highlighting key milestones of the centre.
The combination of the end of the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs, an empty fridge, a hungry stomach, and a smart rewards program created the perfect storm for my breakfast hunt.
With my PC Plus app already loaded on my mobile phone, I entered the store in search of a tasty breakfast. What you should know about the PC Plus program is that it is a smart rewards program that gives you weekly offers tailored to the way you shop. It’s true. The PC Plus program actually adapts to you. I have been using this mobile app for about a month now and it is already learning my preferences. I opened the app to find my personalized offers and found that my favourite breakfast items were on the offer list, yogurt and strawberries. Below are screen shots of how I selected the offers to make up my grocery list within minutes. I was then off to find my items and check out.
While locating the items on my list, I admired the building and was impressed by the innovation that was part of my entire shopping experience. From the incredible building to the personalized mobile app, this was by far my best grocery shopping experience, ever. Here are some shots that I took while on my journey through the store ending at the cashier to check out and collect my points.
After checking out, I was in search of a place to eat my first meal of the day and I stumbled upon the perfect spot. I found a sitting area that was made up of the original Toronto Maple Leaf Gardens seats, tables and a sign about the PC Plus program. Let me assure you, this was not staged. Below is a picture of this perfect storm of innovation.
