Sybase Unwired Platform VS Syclo

Hi All,

I have came across a nice comparison between Sybase Unwired Platform (SUP ) and Syclo, thought of sharing the same with you all.

Sybase Unwired Platform

Heavy weight MEAP

Light weight MEAP

Contains Middle-ware Cache Database (CDB)

Does not contain any Middleware Cache

Single codebase, can generate app for multiple platform

Can generate Native Data Layer

Does not allow Native development

API for Multiple Platforms and HTML code for online Apps

More than one Syclo application cannot reside on a single device with out-of-the box settings.

Allows Native development

Rules for user based Partitioning will be defined in Backend

Multiple SUP application can reside in a single device

End-end debugging is possible

Rules for user based Partitioning will be defined in SUP

Data is stored in file system as encrypted files

Minimal support for debugging. Back-end and device debugging can be done. End to End trace can be enabled to track the data flow in the SUP 2.2.

Reverse Proxy is not supported

Data is stored in a device database (UltraliteDB)

Relay server can be used as Reverse Proxy

Please share your comments and add more points to this, those are covered in this…

Kind Regards,

      Hi Amey,

it's nice to collect here additional product information like this comparison. But to protect the intellectual property of the original author, I'd suggest to provide at least the source (where you found the article).

In this case I strongly assme it's:

As both the platforms ( SUP and Agentry) exist in one box (SMP), it would not be fair to do the comparsion.

In addition, roadmap of MBO modeling in SMP is not yet clear. Therefore, I would love to hear the strengths of Agentry than comparing with SUP 🙂 .

Also, I referred to the source link. SAP personnel has cleared inaccuracies in this comparison and has highlighted some important points about Agentry development.

Even both the platform includes comes together with SMP (that would include sybase mobiliser and NW gateway) these are going to be different platforms. The comparison is needed since the developers and customers are confused on which platform they have to go with.

And in the road map SAP clearly mentioned that the data modeling is going to be with Odata for all the four platforms. But MBO will be there in the future is unanswered still.

In my opinion based on the requirement of the customer we need to select the platforms.

of course, development choice is based on customer requirements. As you rightly mentioned, oData will be the interface for SMP ( modeling in Gateway). This answers about the MBO.

In my opinion, Syclo offers robust 8 applications spanning across the 'business critical' processes. And it would be a good recommendation to consider these applications before custom built approach.

Therefore, it might not be that simple, but it gives an idea to customers, partners, developers about the development approach. In addition, HWC provides a base for light weight applications and pivotal in maintaining the application lifecycle.
