Although not highly advertised, for windows users there is a quick way to get the kernel/component version of your SAP system files from the Microsoft Managment Console(MMC).  See below:

Remote into the server running SAP that you need to check the kernel on.

Click on Start Button and click on SAP Management Console



It will launch the MMC.  From there, right click on your instance (or
server) and choose ‘Version Info’

It will bring up a screen similar to below.  From there look at the section pertaining to your SAP instance (shown in the red box below).  It will break down each of the kernel components and their versions. 

You can also get this information by browsing out to each of the components via windows explorer on the server in question, but this way is significantly quicker/easier by far.
