First I want to thank M. van Foeken for his blog BusinessObjects Design Studio 1.1 SP01 is now GA – Installation

It was extremely helpful.  To quote his blog “I noticed that the BIP ADD-ON files for all the different operating systems are also part of the archive. Previously the could be downloaded separately from the SMP.”  He indicates he will write about BI Platform Add-on installation on Linux.  This document reviews the installation on Windows.

First you must read the Installation Guide.  The SMP ID is required to access.  Special thanks to SAPSupportCE as we could not access this guide but they contacted the content owner to get it released.

After following the steps to unzip the installation files as mentioned by M. van Foeken you can follow along below.

I am using Windows so I will use the Windows folder

At this point you need to select BI4 folder or the BI4.1 folder.  Please check the PAM.

/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/3runsetup_228565.jpg

Run the setup file as shown above.

You may need to wait for it to install.

/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/5english_228567.jpg

I select English.

/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/6prereqcheck_228568.jpg

It passes, so I click Next.

/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/7setup_228569.jpg

On this screen, click Next.

/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/8folder_228570.jpg

At this screen, click Next.  This is where the software installs.

/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/9options_228571.jpg

I went with the defaults.  Click Next.

/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/10logontocms_228575.jpg

Provide administrator logon credentials to the CMS.

/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/11startinstall_228576.jpg

Click Next.

/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/12waitingtompetty_228577.jpg

At this point it takes about 50-55 minutes.  During this time, the Tom Petty song always goes through my head “the waiting is the hardest part”.  Very true with this.

/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/13alldone_228578.png

After 50-55 minutes, you see success!

Now you can start using Design Studio 1.1 with your BI Platform.

NEW in Design Studio 1.1 is to save your Design Studio application on BW.  Note you need the BI Java Usage type or the ECA usage type installed

Dear Tammy, I’d like to ask you how it is going if I am installing DD on distributed BIP installation.

Till now I have installed few times Add On for BIP on our servers and each time it was successfully working for developers but installations were done on all-in-one server where everything was run on the same machine.

After some time I will need to install the same AddOn on environment where one /first/ machine has all BI Platform stuff and CMS DB and on second machine is only Tomcat for managing users’ requests. Could you please advise me if it is enough to install AddOn only on second (Tomcat) machine or right way is else? What in case that I have two CMS machines, two Processing machines (where are nodes for managing different type of reports) and on next two machines I have Tomcat instances? Thank you.

Thanks Tammy for the helpful document. I have installed Design Studio BIP Addon 1.3 on our server BO 4.1 SP2 Patch5. The installation went through successfully but I don’t find “Analysis Application Service” as part of the list of services. I have tried to create a new server but this service doesn’t appear in any of the categories, including “Analysis Services”.

Has anyone faced this issue and got a resolution?

        Hello Maciej,

please check if you installed parts of DS BIP AddOn on correct parts of BO distributed installation.

On Intelligence Tier and on Processing tier install only Analysis App Service. And on Web tier Analysis App web components and Analysis App support for Mobile Services.

Also check if on Web Tier you have installed also all needed parts of BO installation.

If above will not help you can recreate SIA.

        It helped us.
