SAP and BI/BO seems to be on steroids. So many new tools announced in the last year or so. And the disruptive change that HANA is making it more interesting and challenging. Looking at all the new tools like Lumira (Visual Intelligence), Predictive Analysis & Design Studio, I feel that I have been working on legacy products such as web intelligence, Xcelsius (Dashboard Design) and universe designer (IDT).

Though it is exciting to see all these different products, it also throws in many questions

  • Why do we want to put Lumira in the hands of the users? It makes me feel that we are giving them access to a sophisticated Excel tool. The users are smart and busy that they may build too complex applications too quickly.
  • When Import Wizard in BI platform was removed to make way for LCM (Promotion Manager), I thought that SAP is trying to get rid off as many thick clients as possible. But I am wrong considering the newer releases like Lumira
  • Features like grouping of data in Lumira is great but it's been one of the most sought after feature in web intelligence. We could see that all the new products are developed based on eclipse platform. Like CVOM in BI platform, is it not possible to share some of these features across different tools. This can eventually lead to fewer client tools.

"In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order. - Carl Jung"

I hope that the above quote applies to SAP to streamline the products in BI world. Now moving on to learning SAP Lumira!
