Minimize the business downtime of SAP Enterprise Portal updates to a couple of minutes

Until SL Toolset SP 10 you used near-Zero Downtime Maintenance (nZDM) tool for SAP Enterprise Portal to achieve a downtime of only some minutes.
Since SL Toolset SP 10 the tool name has changed: now you have to download the newest version of near-Zero Downtime Maintenance (nZDM) for SAP NetWeaver Java (nZDM Java).

What is nZDM Java for?

nZDM Java is designed to minimize the maintenance activities performed in SAP Process Orchestration (PI and BPM) and SAP Enterprise Portal systems.

General information about nZDM Java you can find in

The functionality you know from nZDM for EP is still available with nZDM Java. The business downtime of SP implementations are reduced to only some minutes. It is easy to implement security related patches or SPs without impact on business packages or access to the Business Suite systems. In addition of implementing SPs it is possible to change Portal Content or KMC-configuration, patch JVM or implement updates on your OS in parallel.

How does it work?

nZDM Java uses a clone based approach. This is independent from the clone tool which will be used. The SAP Landscape Virtualization Management (LVM) 2.0 works with nZDM Java in a process integrated way.
Database changes on the productive system are recorded and replayed to the clone system. Thus the user can nearly work as usual while the clone is updated.
The business downtime is reduced to a couple of minutes: it is a log off, log on.

Supported Releases:
SAP NetWeaver 7.0 including EHP 2, SP11 or higher
SAP NetWeaver 7.3, SP7 or higher
SAP NetWeaver 7.3 including EHP 1, SP2 or higher
SAP NetWeaver 7.4

Details and current status

nZDM for Enterprise Portal is general available. For further details see nZDM Java: minimize the business downtime of your SAP Enterprise Portal update

      Hi Martin,

near zero downtime for the Portal has been mentioned in powerpoints for a few years now and it is nice to see it finally arriving as a product.

Are there any how-to guides available yet, or will they be part of the master guide from the next Support Stack for 7.31 ?

I'd like to read further about it, the nuts and bolts, what is required, hardware obviously, preparation, planning and execution.

Thanks for the good news on the progress of Near Zero DownTime for Portal.

      All the best,

      Andy.

      Hi Andy,

nZDM for portal will be available with the next SP of SL Toolset. So you get a separate docu for this tool and it is not integrated in any Support Stack.

I will send you some additional info separately by email.

      Best regards,

      Martin

      Hi Martin,

ok, I see what you mean, I've just downloaded the current SL Toolset and I'll be using the SL Toolset next week to do a Dual Stack split of BI ABAP&Java as prep for the 7.0 to 7.3 upgrade.

When will the next SP of the SL Toolset be available ?

Thank you for the offer of doco, anything will be greatly appreciated ajsilvey@gmail.com

      Kind regards,

      Andy.
