Blog It Forward – Sandy Price

Here we go … My first blog!  Actually, I have posted things out on Jive, but I never thought of that as “blogging.”  You could say that most of us have done some form of blogging, even if it wasn’t on an “official” social media network.  We have all shared great information through many different formal and informal communities over the years.  Email blasts with questions to experts and colleagues are blogs of a sort. So, this first “official” blog of mine on SCN is really just an extension of things all of us have been doing for years – just with more formalized processes and ways of organizing the information!

A little bit about myself …  I am a Presales Solutions Engineer focused on our financial applications, and I have been with SAP since 2004.  The closest SAP office to me is Irvine, CA, but my travel schedule does not allow me to spend too much time there!

I am responding to Jason Cao’s “Blog It Forward” challenge, which was initiated by Moshe Naveh.  For those of you who are not familiar with Moshe Naveh’s challenge, you can read about it here:   Moshe Naveh‘s Blog It Forward Challenge

I have chosen to answer one question from Jason’s challenge, one question from Tim’s challenge, and one question they both shared.

  1. What inspires you?
  2. What is the most fun thing you ever experienced?
  3. If you could be a superhero, who would you be?

What inspires me?

Something that inspires me is traveling. I love experiencing different cultures, different food, and different ways of living.  Some of my most memorable trips have included an African Safari, cruising the Great Barrier Reef, hiking in the Alps, and almost feeling like a resident after extended trips to London, Singapore and New York City.  The picture below shows me, a couple of favorite family members, and the Matterhorn. I am looking forward to a trip to Peru and Easter Island in September.  When traveling with my husband, I also enjoy slightly less adventurous trips to places like Jamaica, Miami, Hot Springs, VA, and Greensboro, NC.  (Yes, that last one is for family, but believe it or not, they have some outstanding restaurants there!)

What is the most fun thing I have ever experienced?

This is really impossible to narrow down because different things are “fun” for different reasons at different times in your life. Not surprisingly, many of my fun experiences in recent years center around travel … The African Safari was absolutely amazing because we were able to get so close to so many different wild animals that I had previously seen only in enclosures.  Seeing these animals in their natural habitat was indescribable.  I think this was all the more “fun” because I did not expect to be as awed by this experience as I was.  I am not one of these people who has a natural bond with animals.  (You’ve heard of horse whisperers?  I’m a horse screamer!)  And yet, these animals behaved very well with me!

Another one of my favorite travel destinations is a grand old southern resort in Hot Springs, VA called “The Homestead.”  Staying here is truly like taking a step back into history.  It is in the backyard of Washington and Jefferson, so of course they “slept there” and took in the curative waters.  The indoor pool is still heated by one of the many natural hot springs.  When I was about eight, my parents took me there for the first time.  In addition to the drop dead gorgeous mountain scenery, I became addicted to Southern Hospitality.  Back when I was eight, we had to “dress” for dinner, meaning long gowns and tuxes!  I convinced my husband to spend part of our honeymoon there, and we have been going back every 3-4 years ever since.

If I could be a superhero, who would I be?

Since I went on a bit on the above two questions, I’m going to keep this one short.  I would be Wonder Woman.  Love the gold bracelets.

To keep the chain going, I want to challenge Dion DiCristofaro and @Eve.Besant to BIF!

That is a nice picture and though I haven't been to Hot Springs myself I've heard great things about it.

Thank you for sharing a little about yourself.

      Regards,

      Tammy

Thanks, Tammy!  Here is a link to the hotel in Hot Springs:  http://www.thehomestead.com/  It is no longer family-owned (now owned by ClubCorp), but has retained most of its original charm!

      Hi Sandy,

Thanks for taking on the Blog It Forward challenge! Really nice picture of the Matterhorn!

Sounds like travel is a big part of your professional and social life - and certainly inspires me to get out there and try to see more. (Love the bit about "horse screamer" - LOL!)

      Cheers,

      Jason
