TDMS 4 Time Slice

Definition of TDMS

Due to the limitations of available tools, most companies simply create a complete copy of the productive system,  including the entire data repository and all administrative settings whether or not this information is required for testing purposes. This method duplicates the productive environment, so it’s both time-consuming and expensive in terms of infrastructure resources. Your nonproduction environments like development, testing, and training require specific data. SAP Test Data Migration Server addresses this need by allowing you to select just the amount of data you need.

SAP Test Data Migration Server uses rules to create an extract of your data that is approximately 30% the size of the complete data set, but still contains exactly the data that is necessary to keep the business objects and processes consistent. You can reduce data sets in several ways. You can create a system shell that contains only cross-client data and client-specific user and address data, but nothing else. You can set up a system that contains only master data and customizing information. Or you can create a nonproduction system that contains master data, customizing information,

and application data starting with a defined from date. In this last scenario, some essential data may fall outside of the defined time period, but the nonproduction system still requires it. To handle this situation, SAP Test Data Migration Server, configured and implemented on systems running the SAP ERP application, includes rules that logically link data, ensuring that all relevant information is transferred and that the consistency of the involved business processes and data is maintained even beyond the defined time period. You can also reduce data sets based on organizational structure,

such as company code or plant. And with the workbench, you can create completely new ways to reduce data sets or custom scrambling routines for sensitive data.

With SAP TDMS you can:

·         Reduce data volume

·         Simulate production environment

·         Automate system refreshes

·         Selectively refresh individual clients

·         Extract data based on business objects or organizational units/timeslice

·         Scramble sensitive data

Activities that are executed within the process are expected to have a large impact on the work in the receiver client. Therefore we recommend that you define a system downtime by locking users who are not directly participating in the current conversion (that is, who are not registered for the current conversion).

      Thank you for the feedback,

It all depends on the size of the database and which data you want to take across, I used an HR (1.5T) system and took 1 months worth of data and it took me 2 days

      Hope this helps

      Best Regards

      Hi Marius,

I have been searching for some good documentation on TDMS 4.0 and it's been impossible to find.  I've finally found it!  Thank you for the excellent documentation!  If you should know of any good docs,or have any (like yours) on shell creation, it would be greatly appreciated if you could send me in the right direction.

      Again, many thanks,

      Robin

      Hi Marius,

I am Working on TDMS 4.0 test project. I followed your document. However I faced error at Package setting phase at step " Preparation of tables for data transfer".

In Sender System we got Dump DBIF_RSQL_INTERNAL_ERROR.[

An internal error in the database interface occurred during access to

the data of table "CNVMBTSUBSTATE ".]

      Kindly suggest.

      thanks in advance.

      thanks,

      Hello Raja,

Please check the SP levels of all your TDMS participating systems. All TDMS participating systems SHOULD MANDATORILY be on the same SP levels of DMIS and DMIS_CNT.

Hey Marius and Nitwick...thanks for the inputs that worked 🙂 and im proceeding in my project.

Actually I got one more issue,

I am in Time based Reduction on CRM for TDMS 4.0. We are using Solution Manager as our Central/Control System, CRM production system as Sender System, CRM sandbox system as receiver system.

Right now im in Package setting phase at step: " Specify the Data Slice Date"...where we specified the date at the beginning itself...but it says SAP_APPL component is required in the Sender system for validation. [ thats true becoz we are getting errors as we didnt validate]...but my doubt is how SAP_APPL[ this belongs to logistics and accounting] component linked to date validation?

[ just curious to know what others are thinking on this...SAP_APPL component is mandatory install so i have to do that before proceeding any further ]

      thanks in advance,

      Raja

      Hello Raja,

SAP_APPL is not required in case of CRM package. You can ignore this and move ahead.

      Thanks,

      Anita

      Hello Nitwick,

The following is more analysis on dump

      Error analysis

          Short text of error message:

          Error while recreating table CRMD_PARTNER

          Long text of error message:

          Technical information about the message:

          Message class....... "CNV_TDMS_09_A"

          Number.............. 315

          Variable 1.......... "CRMD_PARTNER"

      How to correct the error

Probably the only way to eliminate the error is to correct the program.

          -

If the error occures in a non-modified SAP program, you may be able to

find an interim solution in an SAP Note.

If you have access to SAP Notes, carry out a search with the following

          keywords:

          "MESSAGE_TYPE_X" " "

          "/TDM/9_300_90004_02719_C" or "/TDM/9_300_90004_02719_C"

          "START-OF-SELECTION"

      thanks,

      Raja

      Hi Marius

We are doing TDMS run for ERP with Time-based reduction scenario. We have included the attachment table DMS_CONT1_CD1 (SIZE 250 GB), the pre-calculation for this table in Sender system is running for last 5 days. Is it normal?

Also like to know if TDMS time-based  criteria works for tables containing attachments like DMS_CONT1_CD1 and SOFFTCONT1. Are this table size reduced based on time-based criteria by TDMS. Please advice.

      regards

      Asad
