One of the many advantages of SAP’s acquisition of SuccessFactors was the creation of a comprehensive HCM solution, marrying strength in enterprise applications with people-focused cloud applications.  We were eager to harness the power of the cloud and implement SuccessFactors’ leading-edge HR solutions across SAP.  By applying a best-of-breed strategy and moving to market leading Talent Management solutions in a hybrid model with existing on-premise solutions, SAP has been able to accelerate our end-to-end talent strategy.  This has allowed business to focus on content and execution – not on processes and tools – which exponentially increases the impact of our talent.

We are currently live with Workforce Analytics, Goals, Performance and Talent Review, Calibration, Succession and Career Development and utilized the Compensation Planner for our 2012 year-end bonus and merit process.  We have quickly realized innumerable benefits – a seamless cascaded goals process which provides alignment across the business and insight into execution; a simple talent review calibration process that enables focus on the discussion and understanding of our talent, not the technology; and a system of record for succession data, all supported by analytics pulling from both our on premise core HRIS and our cloud solutions.

As with any implementation, the importance of change management cannot be underestimated.  SAP is a company with innovation at its core and an on-premise heritage.  The move to SuccessFactors was an opportunity to make strategic changes to Talent Management – philosophically and process-wise.  Because the tools are so intuitive, we have been able to focus discussions on the new talent management philosophy itself, as opposed to holding session upon session showing how to use the system.  The feedback of our managers upon completion of the first compensation review cycle regarding user experience improvements has clearly exceeded our expectations.  The number of support tickets regarding the tool usage was reduced by 70% as compared to the former solution.

As we continue to implement further SuccessFactors modules – Recruiting, Learning and finally also move to Core HRIS in the cloud – everyone at SAP is proud of the speed at which we can execute our cloud strategy in our own business. This excitement is fueled by the simplicity of the tools and the power of end to end Talent Management solutions which are key enablers to the execution of our People & Organization Strategy, allowing SAP to achieve our business results and ultimately our employees to run at their personal best!
