Getting Familiar with Visual Intelligence 1.0.10

Visual Intelligence was released at last year’s SAPPHIRE, and now version 10 is out which means there has been 10 releases in the last 11 months.  From the outside looking in, it seems to be following a fast development cycle.  With the last release, version 9, I was able to predict that Louisville would win the NCAA Final Four using the trellis chart features.

Page 7 of the SAP Help  reviews the new features, and I review some of them below (source: SAP Help).

  • Feedback direct to SAP channel
  • SSO connection for HANA data sources (not covered here)
  • Functions documentation
  • Adding custom charts to the selection of chart families

First up is feedback to SAP, where you can rate the product and send in documentation.  I wonder if this is for issues or feature requests?  We’ll see as I did submit some feedback as shown below:

Feedback direct to SAP channel

Click the feedback icon, and it will take you to a screen to rate the functionality and you can submit comments and screen shots.

After entering your comments, possibly annotating the screen, you can submit comments.  You know you are successful if you see a success message.

I’ll be interested to see if/when SAP responds to this feedback, as I did enter some feedback.  Also there is a nice tutorial here that walks you through the steps.

Functions documentation

Next, the functions documentation shows examples of functions as shown below:

Adding custom charts to the selection of chart families

This feature gives you the ability to add custom charts to the chart selection bar.  The SAP help documentation walks you through the steps and gives you some samples, which I show below:

First you have to copy the custom charts to a certain directory:

/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/5copyover_212882.jpg

You have to then close Visual Intelligence, relaunch it, and then the custom chart selection appears as shown below with the “E”:

Here is the custom chart displayed showing medals from the 2008 Beijing Olympics:

      Tammy,

I am going to be doing some experimentation with Visual Intelligence and SAP Performance data coming from ST03N and SDFMON.

Hopefully will get better visual references than just reams of tables which mean nothing to anyone other than a specialised group of people.

      Chris,

Good, because those are stats I never have visibility into.  What a great idea!

      Hi

We purchased 6 licences at SAPPHIRE and so far... it's a big deception !

      It does not work !

We tried the 32bit version on 3 different Windows 7 workstations with 3-4 GB RAM:

      - We can start Lumira.

      - But most of the samples are not working. We open them and see a blank screen, except for the Lumira task bar showing the rows, columns.

      - Same thing with small Excel or BO universe acquisitions: we do all the steps and at the end we see a blank screen, except for the Lumira task bar showing the rows, columns.

We submitted a feedback through Lumira: no reply yet after 1 week.

We're told that the 64bit version is working.. But anyone tested the 32bit version?

Philippe, would you please post details of these issues in the discussion forum?  http://scn.sap.com/community/visual-intelligence/content?filterID=content~objecttype~objecttype[thread]

I am not sure the feedback function is the best place to post issues.

      Regards,

      Tammy
