With a common goal of making Singapore cleaner and greener, over 100 students joined developers, interest groups and environment advocates at the Clean & Green Hackathon 2013 for three days of intensive brainstorming and co-creation of prototypes from 26-28 June. The organizer, National Environment Agency offered participants big environmental datasets, including energy consumption,  weather and air pollution, public cleanliness and food hygiene reports in SAP HANA database on the AWS Cloud.  This is the first time such huge amount of data has been released to the public, made possible by SAP HANA database platform on AWS. A pre-hackathon workshop was conducted on Friday evening to familiarize participants with SAP HANA and Visual Intelligence tool.

Twenty-one environmental prototypes were created during the event, which was graced by Singapore Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan. The top three teams walked away with sponsored prizes worth up to $6,000 from Samsung with the top team getting an additional mentorship program to further develop its solution.
