BI4.1 What is New in BusinessObjects Analysis, Edition for OLAP – Part 1

Yesterday SAP’s Ian McAlpine provided this webcast to ASUG.  There are a great many new features coming to BusinessObjects Analysis, edition for OLAP in BI4.1

Ian explained that Analysis OLAP is part of the ramp up starting in May.  Please note that the usual disclaimer applies that things are subject to change.

Custom grouping lets you combine hierarchies together.  Note that it is limited to the products above – plans coming later for BW to allow for this.

More features are coming to be covered in a later blog.

I am absolutely happy to see that custom grouping will be part of Analysis, as this is one of the features most requested by our users (our previous Cognos tool had this feature working since more than 10 years).

However, I am not happy to see that BW will not be supported in the first place, although it's a SAP tool, too. It should be the very first database to be supported...

We are really looking forward to this feature. So please try to integrate it as soon as possible.

Thanks for update. I'm looking forward to RRI support and context passing (e.g. Variable values) in 4.1. This will enable the use case where we drill-through from a summary report (e.g. Dashboard) to a detail report using Advanced Analysis OLAP 🙂
