Crowd-sourcing new missions for SCN’s gamification platform
I started playing with SCN’s new gamification features yesterday and was fascinated by the missions.
You can only see some of the missions which are present and I started thinking about which other missions might be possible. I’m sure that the SCN team has a list of mission / badge ideas but I wanted tap into the greater community and crowd-source ideas for new missions.
Some of missions I describe below could be possible if user location (for example, via mobile device) was able to be used.
Some of the ideas are a bit crazy and probably not easy to administer based on the amount of associated work to collect all the necessary information.
I also didn’t consider privacy concerns which might be important for some missions.
I’ve started a list below and anyone can add their ideas. I just posted the description without any indication of the mission name.
Note: I’ve noticed that some people have started posted their mission ideas in IdeaPlace.

And I think you've completed all the missions above already (schlau!) 😉
😆
Not all of them (I wouldn't get any certification-related badges or the HANA app on AWS)
Couple more ideas for rewards/missions
Good ideas.
You can add them to the list above - just edit the document.
Thanks for editing the document
No one missing Scnotty here? I would like to have that in my profile!
Regards,
Kumud
Added.
Thanks.
D.
Nice idea and thanks for getting it started! 🙂 I am also finding the new "gamification" aspect enjoyable. It's a new spin on things and great concept to encourage further interactions and contributions.
Great list! And I like the collaborative nature of the document. Thanks for starting this, Dick.
We have TechEd speaker badges already that we gave for last year's participation, and will continue to give next year. We also reward Inside Track organizers and speakers. DKOM is a good idea that I will evaluate.
Idea Place and Home page features are in the planning 🙂
Certified SAP professional is something we've had in mind for a long time but integration restrictions have stopped us so far. I'd like to pick it up again this year.
And I love the Mothership visit mission and SAP charity volunteer!
Keep them coming,
Laure
I was looking at this page of all the foursquare badges for inspiration and I think there are probably tons of other fun ideas.
Don't forget CodeJams and InnoJams 🙂
Good idea.
I'm going to add Demo Jam Participant and Demo Winner
Hi Richard,
this is really cool. superb list of description 🙂
Regards,
Jitendra
With SCN launch on the new platform and gamification mechanics in place it seems that members forgot about Wiki. They use documents/blogs to publish content which looks like the wiki entry. I heard that's going to be some improvements and adjustments in Wiki to level it to the other SCN functionality. And probably this topic is a start point for the other discussion. But nevertheless I put 'Wiki activities' in the table.
Great idea Richard !
Hello Richard,
I wanted to contribute in the style of this "Answered 5 forum posts in 5 different forums" a little more for all the allrounders (like myself ^^). So I added the following mission ideas:
Helpful Traveler = Helpful answers in 10 different places
Helpful Globetrotter = Helpful answers in 25 different places
Wise Traveler = Correct answers in 10 different places
Wise Globetrotter = Correct answers in 25 different places
Helpful all around = Helpful answers in 50 different places
Jack of all Trades = Correct answers in 50 different places
Allthough I'm not quite satisfied with the "wise", but that's the best word I could come up with here. "Knowledgable" sounds so... bleh. 😀
Repeatable missions:
Quality blog post (or document):
Ten 5 star ratings - this should be repeatable in order to balance the points of discussion forum vs blog posts better
Repeatable daily or weekly missions:
Comment on a blog post ~assign a small amount of points upon daily achievement of this mission
Create a status update ~assign a small amount of points upon daily achievement of this mission
...
And another one: "Collaborator": co-authoring a blog or document
I think this idea it's a godsend for points hunters, no matter the quality of the document simply assign 5 points to any documents they found and it's already present in the badge "Pay it forward".
Perhaps it would be more useful a repeateble badge for ten 1 star rating. 😈 😀 😉
Two more mission ideas: supporting the moderators by reporting abuses. This should make their work easier, as they can directly check the abuse reports and do not have to screen all posts that often.
I like it. Und what is the second? ^^
Sorry, I didn't point it out clearly: the missions have the same content, but are analog to other missions, one builds up on the other:
Ah, thank you for explaining. 🙂 Great idea!
The badge for this mission could have a picture of snitch (Harry Potter movie related 😉 ). Highest honor would be "Golden Snitch".
But you don't catch something precious here. ^^ You catch "trash" in the widest sense (sometimes in the direct one). Maybe something like a broom or hand brush+dustpan would be more suited. 😀
Or a little sheriff badge 😉
Thanks for the suggestion Martin Hinderer it is noted. We thought about it and would like to implement such missions, now we need to convince our vendor to help us track activity around abuse reports.
We'll keep you posted.
Laure
i have submitted an idea @idea place.. https://ideas.sap.com/ct/ct_a_view_idea.bix?c=8A060447-ED55-41EB-905E-C077161D66AC&idea_id=23A46707-DABC-4A82-A1C0-019AD371801A
but it seems
Richard Hirsch has already cover it.
Helpful Travelera
Helpful Globetrotter
Helpful all around
Rgrds,
Jitendra
That was me, but okay. ^^ And it's not quite about helpful answers per se, but about getting them in different spaces. 😉 A helpful answer in 10 different spaces and so on. 🙂
Regards,
Steffi.
Hi Jürgen L
Posting my proposal here.
One badge for closing 25, 50 and 100 queries each. This would encourage users to close their threads (of course no points, but only badge for this)
Similarly, negative badge each for keeping 10, 25, 50 queries open. This should display with user name.
