I have been with SAP for 13 years and during this time I have attended many SAPPHIRE events. This year I am unusually excited. Beside the allure of spring in Florida, and the anticipation of many interesting meetings with customers, partners and colleagues coming to Orlando from all over the world, it is really SAP HANA that drives me there more than anything else.
SAPPHIRE NOW is a unique opportunity to hear, taste and smell what is really happening around SAP HANA, including real use cases and customer experiences. Of course, this year we’ll hear a lot about SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA (and, yes, among friends we can still call it “Suite on HANA”, I suppose), but my main objective is to see and verify directly how the balance between bold innovation and tangible value realized is evolving.
At SAP, I am responsible for the Global HANA Program for the SAP Custom Development organization. This means that my focus, and my passion, is to imagine, ideate, design, sell to customers and then realize new customer-specific solutions that leverage the power of SAP HANA as a development platform to solve business problems (or address business opportunities) in a way that before was simply unthinkable.
In my job I see a lot of bold innovation, and with our customers we are also beginning to measure the concrete business value generated by HANA-based custom solutions. But… there is so much more going on right now. There are so many projects, exciting innovative ideas, business models being invented or re-invented where companies are imagining how the world and businesses could look like if some of the limitations of IT weren’t there anymore.
In the next days, while I collect more information from colleagues and friends, I will also start to share how I am shaping my agenda for the three days, and which presentations and meetings I can’t miss. But please look for me at the Industries and LoB Demo Theater on 11 AM on Thursday May 16th. Our topic will be: Stay Customer Friendly When Airline Schedules Don’t Go As Planned.
And if you will be at the ASUG Conference, don’t miss our Education Session with Under Armour, Tuesday at 12:30 PM. Both sessions will give you new ideas about how custom applications can be developed on the HANA platform.
