I watched today’s BI Innovations Webcast on Design Studio with Nick Wall who is with the SAP EMEA COE. Note that future plans are subject to change.

Q: If using BW only and not deploying to BI Platform, how do I deploy Design Studio application?
A: Next release 1.1 you can deploy to BW
Q: Can use 1.0 or 1.1 for IP (integrated planning)
A: No IP will come in a longer-term release – likely next year
Q: Is mid-term this year (in the roadmap)?
A: Yes – 1.2 is likely to be later this year
Q: For iPhone how deploy there?
A: use the SAP BI Mobile application – search for on the Apps store
Q: When link to BI Universes?
A: Coming in 1.2 release, later this year
Q: Will Dashboards disappear ?
A: Both products will continue over the next few years; Design Studio is the main app for the next few years
Q: What about other OS (operating system) support?
A: Android – coming in mid term (1.2 planned)
Q: How about printing?
A: Printing is part of the roadmap, coming in the mid-term release (1.2)
Q: What about RRI (report to report interface)?
A: Yes there is URL linking between the reports
Q: How is the response time?
A: Difficult to answer, uses native connectivity to SAP back ends. Building dashboard applications which shouldn’t have large amounts of data
Q: Does it support offline?
A: planned in the roadmap
Q: Can this be integrated in BPM?
A: Part of roadmap
Q: How is it licensed?
A: It is part of the BI Suite license; if have dashboard license you are entitled to Design Studio license
Q: Does Design Studio come with BEx Analyzer?
A: No it is part of BI suite
