Best Practices for Integration with SAP BusinessObjects BI4x with SAP NetWeaver BW – Book Review
This kindle book, Best Practices for Integration with SAP BusinessObjects BI4x with SAP NetWeaver BW, covers in detail what you need to know when integrating BI4 with NetWeaver BW. The cost is $9.99 USD through Amazon.
Ingo Hilgefort advises to ensure everyone is aware of common terms before starting a project. The book was written as of BI4, SP5. It covers in-depth BEx Query metadata support, data connectivity (BICS, BI4x, Universes including 3.1 OLAP Universes) and he goes on to explain why should consider the BICS first. Additionally he does explain why you may want to consider the .UNX connection against BW as well.
Other topics include what features are planned for the BI4.1 release, what special situations arise with Crystal Reports for Enterprise, Web Intelligence, and Dashboards.
I especially liked the pictures showing where items are in the BEx query and where they end up in the query panel of a report.
Details such BI4x clients support local calculations and which ones do not, how important the variable manager is, detailed recommendations for BEx query design against BI4, which clients are impacted by placement of objects in the BEx queries and more.
He goes into great detail about BEx hierarchy support with each BI client, including skipping levels of hierarchy, expand to level, switching hierarchies and more. Additionally he explains BEx variables and how they work with the list of values in the BI client tools. Tool by tool he gives BI client specific recommendations.
I’ve been asked for recommendations on best practices for setting up OLAP connections and this is covered in this book. He covers single sign-on, STS and SNC.
If you are unsure of spending $9.99 you can have a sample chapter sent to your Kindle to try it. Please note you do not need a physical Kindle but there are various readers for Kindle including iPhone, iPad, computer and more. I know he worked on this book on his own time.
