SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.3 SPS9 – new Mobile, SAPUI5 and Usability enhancements

Dear Portal Experts,

Today I would like to update you about the release of SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.3 Service Pack 9.

The new SAP NetWeaver Portal release brings major improvements for mobile consumption and embedding of SAPUI5 applications in the portal.

Let’s start with a short video demonstrating the SAP NetWeaver Portal for City Portals. This is an example of taking the portal solution and using it as a platform to connect with citizens.

So… what are the two main themes in the latest service pack?

  • Enhanced Mobile Portal capabilities with the support for launching native mobile applications and Web Page Composer content consumption
  • New Unified Framework Page supporting standard mode to embed SAPUI5 and HTML5 based applications

For all of you who are implementing (or planning to implement) the Mobile Portal these days, I would highly recommend to evaluate this latest release.

As you may be aware, SAPPHIRE NOW 2013 will take place very soon. These and many more new enhancements of the SAP NetWeaver Portal and Enterprise Workspaces will be discussed and demonstrated live during the conference. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Additional information about this new release is available in the following presentation.

Personally I like the "start a native app" part. Brings the profile aspect of the portal to mobile workers too.

      Hi Sandip,

We did not yet release this functionality to customers but still have it on our pipeline for future releases. Can you please share your thoughts about this enhancement - what is the use case that you need the REST enablement for? This will help us setting the right priorities in development...

      Hi Aviad

Well, I haven't thought about any particular use case - but I think making the portal services REST enabled will greatly help the justification for Portal on Device. REST services will help in quickly building apps which are suited for PoD.

To start with, I think UWL/UME/Portal connectivity (may be ) should be REST enabled. and subsequently others.

      Hi,

Thanks for the information about new features from SPS09...

I tried to use UFP after updated to SPS09. For some reasons its not loading even the Header with Logo... Tried in Firefox and IE 9 with Standard Mode.

Does UFP takes only the Content based on SAPUI5 to display and ignores all other content user is assigned with? Also since it is one level navigation, do we need to create a separate role structure?

Does any one have similar issues?

      Thanks
      Sumanth

Only standard mode content will run in the new Unified Framework Page. It is strange that you don't see content at all. I suggest that you open an OSS message on this issue (cc:Ronny Amran).

... and yes, since the navigation strucuture has only one TLN level (and further levels in the DTN), you will have to adujust your content to run in this structure.

Note: SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.31 SPS 07 was just released to customers and provide the capabilities above, for the SAP NetWeaver 7.3 EhP1 version.

Hello Aviad, weh have portal 730 with SP09, but I cannot see the unified framework page, I get just a blank screen - maybe the same issue as encountered by Sumanth (see above). Are there any config steps needed or do I just add a master rule condition and point to the unified framework desktop ? (that's what I did)

      thanks,

      Johannes

Mostly alias creation and rule collection settings. If is is not working, I recommend to open an OSS message.

Since only one framework page can use at a time. Can I put non-HTML5 app into this framework?

There should be SAPUI5 & non-HTML 5 app in the portal.

      Thanks

      Hi Aviad

Thanks for keeping us informed about the latest Mobile initiatives in SAP.

I am a BW consultant. Most of my clients use SAP Portal as the single point of access for their BW content: BEx WAD - Web Templates, Dashboards, more recently Design Studio.

Starting from SAP NW Portal 7.3 SP 9 it is possible to consume Design Studio content in Mobile Devices via Portal mobile edition. Is there any limitations for this scenario you are aware off. Mainly but not exclusive in the area of security/authentication, single sign-on.

      http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/7029e726-c576-3010-ba9e-e6ce2106dbb2?QuickLink=index&…

Is it possible to consume Dashboards (HTML5) the same way as Design Studio on Mobile Devices through the Portal, Mobile edition?

      Kind Regards
