From young children to older adults, mobility is changing the world as we know it.  Even more crucially – creativity is changing the world as we know it. Ideas can now be exchanged at a truly staggering frequency and between people with such diverse talents and in such unrelated disciplines and locations. Younger people in particular, raised as they are on technologies that are as ubiquitous now as the radio or TV was for previous generations can share and formulate ideas like no other generation before them.

The world of mobility is not immune – indeed given the scale of adoption of mobile technologies and devices by younger people this could be considered the beating heart of the creative whirlwind. As a creative company and one built on ideas and ideals of community and disruptive innovation we want to not only to participate in this exchange of ideas but to actively encourage it.

That is why Jennifer Frank and her team at SAP devised and launched the App Rumble! The Rumble is a unique competition launched in spring 2013. It aims to capture some of that extraordinary creative talent by giving students the opportunity to present an idea – any idea – on how they see the future of mobile tech evolving by proposing a specific cutting edge app idea. Young people are not only the creative users of mobile technoogy they have grown up with it, have learnt not to fear it but rather to embrace it and assume it forms part of their everyday lives. Their openness and their flexibility to explore new frontiers of usage and adoption and who knows, perhaps one of their apps will be the key SAP app of the future.

Today, SAP is one of the world’s strongest brands and is a “cool” place to work and engage with because we are now interacting with customers and younger generations like never before. This competition is the perfect way for students to build an app to astonish the wider SAP and indeed wider global business communities with their ideas, innovation and approach to problem resolution, while having the chance to interact with leaders in the technology industry.

The SAP University App Rumble encourages students to take a design thinking approach to creating a new mobile application for one of SAP’s 24 industries.  The focus on Design Thinking is key – it enables students to evaluate the desirability, feasibility, and viability of their application to ensure that they have created a high quality, feasible and practical solution. Design Thinking -  the notion that underpins all innovations that stand the test of time - will need to be demonstrated fully by the students that want to win. After all - we anticipate a lot of entries during 2013 and the winners will have to demonstrate critical judgement, creativity and studious application if they are to win.

So let's wish them the best of luck and look forward to seeing the ideas!
