New Workload Mobility Capability for SAP HANA
In the cloud truly the customer gets it all, meaning in any data center it is always a topic of adjusting resources to needs, of having applications be supplied with sufficient capacity to run smoothly, still keeping costs in check. It’s a new paradigm which we are actively pursuing – performance on demand. As a prime example, when innovating applications, there is a big differential in resource needs as to development and test systems, with development systems needing much less processing and other inputs while the focus rests on modeling, coding and functional tests. For broader performance tests that mimic production loads and data volumes, much more resources are needed. Often today development will take place in virtualized environments, whereas performance testing is done in physical environments – both being used as to their relative strengths. Now if only it was easy to move systems from one environment to the other.
This is where recent work in SAP Value Prototyping (SAP VP) comes in, with a new capability to move workloads from virtual to physical to virtual as needed and in most cases in mere minutes, revolutionizing resource optimization and project flexibility. A focus area has been projects that explore the power of
SAP HANA. Here now, this on-demand SAP HANA workload mobility solution “at the press of a button” can seamlessly map a SAP HANA Virtual Machine instance to storage attached to a physical machine, assuring continuance of the development and testing experience.
For our SAP Value Prototyping Cloud, which is used extensively for application innovation projects by customers, partners and SAP itself, this workload mobility solution enables rapid provisioning of real resources when demanded by the applications thus extending SAP’s efforts to spawn broader SAP HANA adoption in private cloud development and test environments. It’s performance on demand. Optimizing resources and costs across virtual and physical servers, making projects faster, cheaper and much more flexible. Talk to us about how this new capability can be adapted to your specific needs. We also do a large variety of other projects around SAP HANA.
SAP Virtualization week is being held at SAP Labs in Palo Alto, CA, April 9-11, 2013. See us at the upcoming SAP Virtualization Week in Palo Alto where we will provide an overview of how Workload Mobility can contribute to lean cloud infrastructures, discussed against a background of now more than 10 years of experience in mass provisioning of SAP landscapes in virtualized settings:
