Ready to learn at HR2013-Wednesday’s Sessions

HR 2013 is just around the corner, and I’m excited about it. In the past, there was generally a keynote on Tuesday, followed by an HR general session on Wednesday. As I reviewed the schedule, I noticed that because there is an HR general session on Tuesday this year, we’ll get even more breakout sessions on Wednesday.  Without further ado, here’s my “session selections” for Wednesday.

Session #1-“A step-by-step guide to taking your paper forms and documentation online with Smart Forms” (Track 3) by Chris Gray. I’m looking forward to this session for a couple of reasons-first of all, as I mentioned in an earlier blog entry, I’m ready to move our pay statements to pdf, and at the same time, I may move the pay statement from the “old” HR Form Editor PE51 to Smart Forms. Additionally, I’m always looking for ways to improve our processes, and I believe that one of the best ways to do so is through form automation.

Session #2-“An introduction to compensation management: Cloud and on-premises” (Track 2) by Paul Hopkins. This topic is intriguing to me. I haven’t given serious consideration to managing compensation within SAP since my company was on 4.7, and I think it would be great to hear what SAP has to offer, and see if the features are a good fit to our current compensation model requirements. I’ll be skipping, but do recommend “An up-to-date guide to troubleshooting the payroll process if and when you encounter an error” by Mike Timm. I’ve sat in on multiple presentations by Mr. Timm and I’ve found him to be exceedingly knowledgeable regarding Payroll-and more importantly, has found an easy way to explain it all.

Session #3-After lunch, I’ll be attending “The 2013 guide to core SAP ERP HCM enhancements: On-premise and cloud” (Track 6) by Jean-Bernard Rolland. It’s always great to know what’s new and what’s coming soon, and who better to speak about it than an SAP employee. Again, as above, if you aren’t attending this session, consider Mike Timm’s session at the same time.

Session #4-“Case study: A detailed look at Tyson Foods’ time and attendance implementation” (Track 5). This is being presented by Susan Jones and Brenda Espinoza. I met Susan when she came to a presentation I gave in 2011, I’m really looking forward to seeing how they did Time and Attendance Implementation even better at Tyson than we did at Mannington Mills. I’m sure I’ll get some tips and tricks to take back to the office to improve our systems. Another session, another missed opportunity for me, as I’ll miss Julie De La Torra’s session on Global SAP Implementations. I’ve heard Ms. De La Torra in the past talking about Org Management, and it really helped me to start thinking about my Org Structure, which I’ve pretty much tucked away on autopilot since 2005. I will definitely be reviewing her presentation on the Insider Learning Network website. That’s really a key point to remember, you’ve got access to all the material, from all the sessions, available to you, whether you attended a particular session or not.

Session #5-“Optimizing your payroll operation” (Track 5), by Diane Hirt. I believe that Diane and I started in SAP around the same time, we definitely did some training together, it will be absolutely wonderful to catch up. It’s always great to network with an old acquaintance. But it’s still about the education, just like the time implementation above; I’m definitely looking forward to the chance to learn a few tips and tricks for how to speed up our payroll processes. No pressure Diane.

For those of you keeping score at home, one each at Tracks 2, 3 and 6, and two Track 5. Still looking for the ideal session for Track 1, Track 8 will take care of itself on Thursday and Friday. I also need to remember to do a little socializing and check in with the Payroll Expert on duty at “Ask the Experts” on Wednesday night.  Don’t forget to follow me on twitter (@SAP_HR_Guy) and to register or find out more information about SAP HR 2013 click here.
