Are you ready? The single biggest healthcare event of the year is just around the corner! This year, the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual conference will be held at Ernest N. Memorial Convention Center in New Orleans from March 3-7.
I am extremely excited to attend HIMSS 2013. This a great opportunity to meet the leaders of healthcare organizations, connect with the professionals who are influencing the technological transformation of healthcare, and gain insight into the hot topics, challenges, and initiatives that are at the forefront of our industry. Specific topics that will be spotlighted at this year’s HIMSS conference are Meaningful Use, Mobile Health, Health Information Exchange and Clinical and Business Intelligence.
Many of the keynotes are centered on the impact of the Affordable Care Act, quality of healthcare, best practices, health insurance reform and healthcare innovation. I am thrilled to hear from Eric J. Topol, a leader in the movement to modernize medical treatment through the latest technologies. His book The Creative Destruction of Medicine: How The Digital Revolution Will Create Better Health Care, is about how social networking, smartphones and the power of new tools that sequence each individuals genome will give patients control of their own health information and revolutionize medicine. I am eager to hear Dr. Topol talk about the impact mobile technology is having in the industry and where he thinks we will be in 5-10 years. Can you imagine virtual consultations?Dr. Topol’s keynote is on Tuesday at 8:30am, I’ll see you there.
Another featured speaker at HIMSS 2013 is President Bill Clinton. Shortly after leaving office President Clinton established the William J. Clinton Foundation with the mission to improve global health. I can’t wait to hear more about the Clinton Health Access Initiative which is helping people living with HIV/AIDS access lifesaving drugs. His session is on Wednesday at 1:00pm. I definitely will not miss the occasion to hear President Clinton in person.
In between keynotes, you will find me at the SAP Booth #2511 at Exhibit Hall D. Take a virtual tour of the booth now! This year SAP will be showcasing analytics, cloud and mobility solutions with the following featured demos:
- Drive Better Outcome From Data
- Actively Manage Cost and Quality
- Enhance Operating Efficiencies
- Support Patient Centeredness
On Wednesday at 12:00pm our very own Faheem Ahmend, VP of Strategic Initiatives at SAP, speaks about Empowering Family Caregivers: Harnessing Mobile and Social Solutions to Improve Healthcare Outcomes”. You will hear Faheem talk about how social and mobile technologies can be a powerful catalyst for transforming patient engagement by captivating caregivers and healthcare professionals in innovative ways.
