The Business Continuity Road Map summarizes the efforts of SAP to reduce planned and unplanned downtime of SAP Systems at customer side from end-to-end point of view. The new version 3.5 (February 2013) is now available on the SAP Market Place and can be downloaded here.

The hottest news and updates are:

Ø nZDM tool for SAP NetWeaver Process Integration (nZDM/PI) is now general available for customers. As of SL-Toolset 1.0/SP6, the nZDM tool for PI is part of the SL-Toolset, and thus can be used without any additional license fee. It allows to apply an Support Package on top of a current PI-Dualstack System PI 7.10, 7.11, and 7.30 with around 30 minutes downtime only. Support for PI 7.31 is planned for SL-Toolset SP7. An optional consulting service is also available for an initial know-how transfer (if needed at all) and to safeguard the first updates from project perspective at customer side.

Ø Integration of Customer Transports is now available on request within SUM. As of SUM/SP6, customer transports can be integrated into the SUM procedure, so that customer transports as well as SAP changes are deployed together within one SUM run. By doing so, there is no second downtime necessary to deploy customer transports separately. Also the subsequent SGEN to compile customer transports only becomes obsolete. If you are interested in using new functionality, check out SAP note 1759080 for further information.

Ø nZDM capabilities of SUM are now also supported on Microsoft SQL-Server. With SUM/SP6 the nZDM capabilities of SUM can now also be used for ABAP based SAP System running on Microsoft SQL-Server. To use the nZDM capabilities of SUM, it is still necessary to register the project. Additional platforms will follow. General Availability of the nZDM capabilities is planned for the very near future, most probably with SUM/SP7 already.

Ø It is planned to reduce the overall runtime of SUM in the near future. In order to reduce the planned downtime, SUM needs approximately 20-30% more runtime to analyze and deploy the new versions, and to record and replay the transactions while the system is updated. SAP has investigated the root cause for this, and plans to provide significant runtime improvements, the Fast Data Copy technology, in the near future.

Additionally, news about Rolling Kernel Switch, the HA-Interface Certification for Partners, and the nZDM tool for NetWeaver Portal are covered by the Business Continuity Road Map as well.

The Business Continuity Road Map of SAP will be explained also interactively in the following webinars:
